Natty upgrade - no GUI after reboot

Well what is "correctly"? I completely removed the proprietary drivers (from ATI's site) and installed the ones from the "Additional drivers" section. No go. It didn't work with the proprietary ones either. Far as I can see, I've done what I was supposed to, but no luck.

Get a decent gpu (for the OS you are using).

Read so much issues with ATI and linux on the net it's not even funny.

Great, so we have to wait for an update from ATI? I'm sure that'll only be another month. *sigh*

FARK NATTY.. stupid piece of crap. $%#%$#%$#%$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Freeken broke my work desktop and I need to work. FFS. Dont those stupid developers test on real hardware. Fk fk fk.

Im spitting feathers on this side.

I cant cntrl alt f2 or anything. Piece of crud upgrade. My pc is officially fked. Thanks ubuntu. Last time I trust them.

I have a (somewhat) working desktop now, with extremely slow ATI drivers and Gnome3. I actually missed the fact that installing Gnome3 via the PPA would destroy Unity, so I can't even check out Unity now, unless someone knows a way to recover it without a complete reinstall?

If it makes you feel any better, ubuntu breaks with nvidia as well. Seriously this release was done by a bunch of monkeys eating shrooms.

They tested it on a single netbook and decided it was ready for primetime by the looks of it.

I'm actually kind of liking Gnome3, even though these ATI drivers are ridiculously slow with Natty. I'd love to be able to check out Unity though to decide between the two. Really annoyed at this point.

Hmm. Guessing I will wait a while before upgrading my work pc then. The upgrade popup today, quite a surprise, just minimized it as I was busy with work.

That's what happened to me. Upgraded from Meerkat and with the "you don't seem to have the hardware to run Unity..." message, my Natty stalled. Like 100% stall. Had to reinstall 10.10 and upgrade to 11.04 (md5 mismatch on natty cd). Now just to get Unity to work on Natty and I'm hopefully set.

11.04 working ok for me with ATI HD4350, but I will NOT try any updates(same as 10.10) because updates ALWAYS result in broken system when using ATI proprietary drivers :-(
