Need 10m antenna cable for iBurst Desptop Modem

Hi.

I have an iBurst desktop modem, and an iBurst flat panel/directional antenna. I would like to mount the antenna on the roof of my building to help improve signal strength.

For this I would require about 10 meters of antenna cable. Where would I be able to get such a cable, and what sort of connectors would be required on each end of the cable? On the directional antenna I have, there is an existing 2m cable, which has the short pigtail cable screwed into it at the end, the same pigtail cable that plugs directly into the iBurst modem. Is there a maximum length that the cable should not exceed (for reasons of signal quality, attenuation, etc)?

Any assistance/advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Afaik using a cable that long would degrade your signal.

The best solution is to mount a wifi AP and the Dark Knight in a weather proof enclosure where the signal is best.

yes, you will have some signal loss but it will still be a better signal that what you'll get indoors. Have got a 10m with omni.

Both of these will be able to make up the cable for you, and yes over 10m the signal loss is significant, if by any means you could mount the modem in a weatherproof enclosure do that rather. you are running a network cable anyway, so get a power over ethernet injector kit and a splitter at the modem side, or use the suggestion by r00igev@@r.

That's what I've heard too. But what is the max length that can be used with no signal loss, or negligible signal loss? In my case I can go for a 5m cable + existing 2m cable on the antenna itself, or 10m + 2m. Will have to measure the distance to see if 7m will work. Also, doesn't adding more connectors (by joining cables + the pigtail) degrade the signal even further?

yes, you will have some signal loss but it will still be a better signal that what you'll get indoors. Have got a 10m with omni.

What speeds do you get? Are you able to max your 1mb connection out?

I remember using the antenna boosted my Downloading speeds to 128KB/s aka 700Kilobits per second.. But didnt change the whole experience that much, still use Iburst and work. and its still as SLOW as ever

Great idea regarding the POE, though I'm not too keen on having the iBurst modem so far away from me, outdoors. Could make diagnosing problems rather cumbersome, or checking the status of the router (signal, connectivity, power).
