I''ll be honest - I don't know much about cars, nor do I have much interest in them.

Nor do I have a lot of money to spend.

I am looking for any suggestions as to what models to take a look at, and also any dealerships in Cape Town that have a good reputation, and are less likely to take advantage of my ignorance on the topic.

Presuming the bank will lend me anything, I suppose early 100K area?

Second-hand.

Help! :)

*edit*

Will be used primarily for short trips from work to home in the city (round-trip of ~15kms), and it's just me and my doggo. Every now and again, I'd probably drive from Cape Town to PE. Don't need large amounts of space.

What are your needs though?
How many people you want to transport, do you want to load it up with loads of crap, do you want to go offroad, long trips, short trips?

I'll update the post with some further info shortly. Sensible question...

See if you can find an toyota etios. Reliable, economical, no fuss.

Mazda 2 / Ford Fiesta / Honda Jazz would be my choices.

Depending what kind of doggo we're talking about the Jazz might be the better option as it's probably the more utilitarian of the bunch.

I have a 2014 Nissan Micra with 55k on the clock I'm considering selling at about your budget.

Not the best pic though.

If you going to go into any sort of debt make sure you get yourself a proper car, something which will last and won't cost you an arm and a keg in running costs. I would go normally aspirated and Japanese.

SO you looking for a city run-around with long distance potential and some comfort, I assume AC is required and the rest optional.

Not a Polo.

What Year are you looking at?

These are some good choices

2005 Golf V
2007 RunX
2010 i10
2013/14 Fugo
2011/12 Jazz
2012/13 Mazda 2
2010 Nissan Tiida

Your best choice for second hand car is to go Japanese

The portable honda brio would be my first choice, I drive it no issues what so ever. Full tank less than R500 give me more than 600 kilometers. Service at the dealer R2500 so if you use independent mechanic it will be cheap.

Suzuki Swift
Nissian Micra
Mazda 2 (first generation)
Toyota Aygo/Etios
Honda Jazz.

Do you really want him to torture others on the road by making them look at the back of that car traveling at slow speeds? :D

Hahaha hands off my little brio I do agree the back of the brio, looks weird but it's a fantastic little car for new drivers.

How about Suzuki Swift let's erase the brio.

I would agree on the Swift, much better choice, Toyota, Honda, Suzuki are very reliable cars, but as a city car only, the Brio is a good choice but for space and occasional long distance the swift would be better, plus one would not be torturing other road users by looking at a brio
