Need a cheapie. Suggestions?

What about a honda jazz 1.3 comfort it's a 2013 model 90 000 on the clock. Good idea bad idea?
 
@Rouxenator re the 2007 407 ST: Isn't reliability a concern on a +-11yr old car?

Strange. When I drove the car to Dullstroom I found the seat very comfy actually. And I do have a bit of a weak back. But perhaps we are just built differently and need support in different spots. Glad you liked the car though. It is a awesome little car. :)

Mine has 141,000km on and I got it with 133,000km. It changed my view on French cars as it never let me down. I did have to do some work on it when I bought it, like a new clutch and the power plug on the A/C compressor was stuffed, but other than that everything is working fine. I would however steer clear of the 2.7 HDI models (Ford AJD-V6/PSA DT17 engine) and all other cars using it : 607, C5, C6, Jag S type and XJ, Disco 3.

When it comes time to replace any of my cars it will probably be with another Opel or Pug.

Where in the country are you? I might sell my wife's Up in the next month or two if you want a smaller fuel efficient car. But that's still a very big maybe. And it has a manual gearbox.

I get about 540 km from 32 liters, 60% traffic. I'll let you know, but we are in Stellenbosch so you might want a car closer to home maybe.

Lucky you. On the open road our cars can get down to 8l/100km but in Stellenbosch traffic the Astra does 10.3 and the Pug can go as high as 12.8.

It's a rather big problem with the schools on the main route (R44) and plenty of folks commuting through Stellenbosch (Paarl <-> S/West). I often ride past cars coming into Stellenbosch on the Paarl side and then they only pass me as I exit Stellenbosch on the S/West side. That slow...

I would cry at that. With the passat I average 7.5 (if traffic is really crap this can easily go up to 10) around town, around 6 on the open road, had it down to 3.9 once driving from Oudtshoorn to Mosselbay. Was that you on the bike on friday that I drove past?

I'm averaging around 11.5. City driving is around 13-14 :(
 
Yeah that was me, I waved. Was on my way to inspect your farm fence :p

With the normal traffic it takes my wife almost an hour to get the kid to school and then get to work. Including a nice bit of harsh braking close to work where a truck dropped some gravel in the road and now their are two more cracks in the windscreen...

When I saw you I realized you've been driving past me for probably a few years, you also feature in the bad driving thread where you took the corner at AF Louw at a big speed one day on your bicycle and missed me by inches. You were wearing all black that day. This town really is to small. I'll invite you for a wine tasting later in the year than we can chat over a glass of wine.
