Need a Nanny

I'm lucky my son stays with his grand parents during the week and I see him on weekends. I don't like nannies, maids, or whatever.

We had a couple of nannies for my son before he went to creche at age of 2...what a nightmare managing these nannies:

1. First one I fired eventually. She was always absconding, off sick, "were robbed on the way" etc. It was always a pleasant surprise in the mornings WHEN SHE ARRIVED.
2. Believe me, it is nervewracking waiting for a nanny when you bothe have to be at work.
3. Second one was a Zimbabwean. So pleasant and sweet during interview and for the first 2 weeks...then they have you by the balls. Suddenly want R500 a month more or they have to find other work. What do you do? You have to give in otherwise your life is upside down. Got rid of her....
4. Then found the perfect one. Local lady that came with awesome references. R2800 per mnth. Travels to us daily.
5. Do not get a live in...you open a huge can of worms there.
6. I don't think asking grandparents to raise our kids are fair. They have done their bit and need a break! IMO

Damn do people still get paid that low? I guess its that or no job for them, not that I could afford one either though. Bleak for them.

My GF(23) is an Au pair and earns closer to R10k, she has to use her own vehicle though.

What do you expect then to pay them. With R1300 plus they get free food, electricity, bed and room.
Well 10K is not a alot of money these days, but most aupairs, babysitters, maids, etc. do not earn that much.

Well there's a clear difference between an Au pair and a 'nanny'.

A nanny is basically just a maid who looks after the child/ren and who also cleans the house etc..

While an Au pair is there specifically to look after the child.

You pay for what you get.
