Need a new Washing Machine

I also have a Bosch Series 6 ( 9KG. Exact model will vary from retailer to retailer I've found ). It uses a phone app Home Connect. You can perform functions already mentioned above like scheduling, checking current the status of the wash, a tablet counter ( manually enter the amount of tablets - get an alert when they run out ) etc. But beyond that, for me at least it doesn't add much value. I've only added it to the network because it can be added to the network :)

Home Assistant does have a Home Connect integration. I haven't enabled per above as I prefer to keep my installation lean i.e. I don't add devices to Home Assistant that I'm unlikely to use within it

A bit late, but for connected appliances, look at Candy. Unfortunately though, it seems they are not easy to get into Home Assistant.

As for why? Load shedding. I can set my washing machine at home before I leave for work and as soon as the power is on, I can start it so when I get home, my stuff is done.

Thanks, makes sense.

I've definitely seen the use for delaying the start of a wash - but then again, I don't need an app for that, just a "delay" function.

In my case I have an inverter, but only a 5KVA, so I may very well prefer to wash something when there's full sun, or when the grid is available as a backup, or when the dishwasher is finished. But this will always be ad-hoc type of settings based on the day - not a general automation / rule.

Having a better notification when something is done will also be useful (I've definitely been tasked by HQ to go and hang up the washing when it is done, only to forget about it and having to please-explain later...) If Google Home can inform me, inside my home-study that I should go and attend to the washing, cool :)

Maybe something like this can help:

OK, nevermind. Had a company come out for a repair and they replaced the drain-pump on the ol' LG for R1,000. She lives to rinse&spin another day, dumb (as in non-smart device) as ever.

I have the Samsung one , it connects to the smart things app but tbh I don't see the need for a smart washing machine.

I still have to manually put my clothes in , I don't see how that makes my life easier.

Bosch I always had but they are no longer made in Germany. Then with the Samsung Ecobubble I had to use the denim wash for all my work clothes. The spin is otherwise too high and everything defaults to at least 40 degrees. I like 30 and a lower spin for nylon and embellishments. ‘Denim wash’ seemed to work though I worried I wasn’t using the machine as intended. Normally the ‘other’ washes want smaller loads.
On the Samsung eventually the spider connecting the drum broke. Both have a reasonable hand wash that I also like.

Thanks for the resurrection

I actually ended up getting a Bosch after the LG broke down again. Gave the LG away to whoever wanted it - as long as they could come and collect it.

I did get the Bosch with the Wifi, and I must say, having an app available is useful. Not because I want to "schedule it" or "start it remotely" - I've never felt the need to do it.

No: biggest benefit is it can show a proper error in English on a big display as opposed to 2/3 digit "codes" that I have to go and decipher somehow.
