need a phone for fnb app

What is needed for the fnb app to work on a mobile phone? I have an old samsung and it is not compatible. I do not know why. It would be nice if it told me why it was not compatible, but there it is. Is is because my phone does not have a finger print sensor? I tried to search the forums, but 'fnb app' comes back with keywords too short. Something wrong with the search. Anyway, advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

PS - FNB send a sms telling me to get the fnb app or I would be prevented from transacting some date in September
 
What version android are you using?. Uodate that and then should work fine...

I think my phone will not upgrade any further.
Do you know minimum version required?
Hope this is the problem, I really do not want to buy a high priced phone with finger print sensors and all that jazz.
 
Must be - Can you imagine telling fnb customers they all got to have a phone with finger print sensors

More to do with security patches etc. Nothing to do with fingerprint etc. Protecting your money at the end of the day
 
You could always try an android emulator on your PC, like bluestacks.

Otherwise I'd recommend the Nokia 3.4 phone or Samsung A51. Both are fairly decent entry level phones and should provide you with security updates for atleast 3 years.

4.4.4 is definitely the reason and a new phone is the only fox. Custom ROM won’t work, even if you could find one, as banking apps won’t work on those.

A phone with Android 4.4.4 is at least 7 years old and likely hasn’t had security updates for a long time, I think you’ll find ANY modern phone with a more recent version of Android will work.
 
you should be able to get away with a R1k phone from pep...
 
What phone is it out of curiosity?
I've got an old Mate 7 that ran 4.4.4, managed to do a manual flash to get it running Android 6.
 
I was in this same boat. One Sunday in 2018 couldnt log in with my iphone.

In short, if ios or Android dont support phones... they force one to upgrade!

Its life!

I have a tablet with LineageOS (Android 9 Pie) and the FNB app works on it. The app doesn't like rooted phones, certain things like NFC won't work, although I've seen instruction on how Magisk might be able to circumvent this detection. The app doesn't work in emulators like Bluestacks.

Any chance that you still have the Mate and could maybe export the apk file?

FNB App for Android 6

I have an older phone (Sony Xperia E5) and need the last version of the FNB app that worked with Android 6.0. I factory reset it without first exporting the APK and the current Play Store version can't install on my phone. I've asked FNB, but they were not willing to supply an older version...
