Hi

My 2006 Audi 2.0 TDI (engine code BLB) has a damaged head and one broken piston. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about engines and have been told that it will cost approximately R50k to repair ( which is about what the car is worth). The other alternative is to buy a recon motor, but these engines are rare and expensive.

I reside in Durban. I'm asking if anyone knows of someone in Durban that can assist me in repairing the engine and head. Times are tough, so funds are tight unfortunately.

Would anyone know if the BLB head is compatible with any other A3 /A4 head, or does it only partner up with the BLB head.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Thank you

How did you manage to damage the head?

Unfortunately your chances of getting the engine repaired at any reasonable figure is probably out of the question.

You'd be more likely to get a reconditioned engine at a cheaper price.

Register with a non Internet-based email address (Gmail, Hotmail, etc.).

Best advise ^^
:)

Repairing those engines are not cheap. If you are technically inclined, DIY could be way less than R30k.

This is a new term to me.
So basically a desktop client?
How does Gmail fit into this?

On-topic: I'm also interested to find out how exactly the head and piston was damaged.

No, just any non Internet-based email address. Gmail, Hotmail, etc. are all Internet-based email addresses/services.

So use something with your own domain, work's domain, etc.

Pretty stupid rule tbh.

Wonder how the op managed to pop his engine, ignoring things going south or instantaneous catastrophic failure. I love how the retail value of German cars tank, virtually an entry level Toyota of the same year will often sell for more than a reasonably high end German car.

I think OP's case is the exact reason for the low value 2nd hand German cars.

Thanks for the reply

To be honest I don't know. It actually looks like the area where the valves sit is melted and there was a valve head embedded in a piston head. The car had oil and water. The mechanic doesn't know what happened.

I have images, but I don't know how to upload them.

Does anyone know if any other head is inter changeable with the BLB sub assembly. Thx

A quick google of that engine code shows lots of people complaining that they don't last very long. Seeing as you don't know much about engines get a recon engine, it will probably be cheaper and easier for you unless you want to have it rebuilt.

If you are looking for a 2nd hand head anyone that comes from the same engine will fit eg. VW, Audi, SEAT or Skoda, any of those cars that have the same engine will have a head that fits.
