I have th following pc and need advice pls peeps.

P4 3.0GHz (Prescott - yeah I know :o)
Gigabyte MB 8IPE1000
1GB Ram
Nvidia 7300GT 512MB AGP
200GB HDD
Windows 7 RC1

The only game I want to run on this is Flightsim X. Will it make a huge difference if I change my RAM to say 2GB or 3GB? Not sure if Win7(32Bit) supports 4GB Ram?

I can get corsair Value ram for R388 for 1 GB. I dont have the cash to do a complete upgrade of everything. Any advice would be appreciated.

What is your MAXIMUM budget for this...?

Dude, the ram won't really make much of a difference (by much i mean it wont make you go omfw! Look how cool this game is on my pc)

your pc is quite old, you need to get atleast a dual core and a HD4670/4650 to play the latest games out there on adequate settings

Thing is older components have become very expensive as you may have noticed which makes upgrades quite tricky.

RAM will help a lot. But as mentioned above, the upgrade will leave a warm feeling in your tummy, as apposed to a moist feeling in your pants....

You know if only engagement rings weren't so expensive I could have bought myself a brand new pc! But hey, its worth it!
I used to play Flightsim X on my machine with medium graphics when I had XP on, but Win7 takes a bit more memory. If I spend say R1500 on Ram (3GB or so) will it improve my pc enough to keep Flightsim X running at an acceptable speed? Hopefully in 2 years time I will get a new pc. I have an Xbox 360, so Im not gonna play games on my pc.

PS: BTW, thanks for all the quick replies!

In 2 years time she's gonna want a baby. Upgrade your PC now before it's too late! :D

If you are going to spend R1500 on RAM, then you should kick yourself hard in the nuts, and rethink your plan :) Below is just an example, and not the best components money can buy; but it will be a massive improvement over your current system. Perhaps try buying second hand RAM??

New MOBO = 500
New RAM = 400
New CPU = 600
New VGA = 600

Agreement.

Spending more money on a rig as old as that one is not worth it. A new GPU which will be a LOT better than your current one won't set you back that much, but then you'll need a new mobo....and CPU.....etc :p

LOL! :D
If I upgrade now, there is now engagement ring!

No, dude, try: if there's no upgrade, there's no engagement ring. :D Put it in the wedding fund somehow. :D If you go for the plain yellow Gerbera Daisies instead of the orange you can knock off R2K from the wedding expenses. :D

Does this look ok?

The prices below are an indication of what is available. Prices are dealer prices from last month and exclude VAT. Not even sure if all this will work together (need sleep), but you can get an idea of what it will cost more or less.... A system like below will be much better than the current one....

Thanks Conradl, will def have a look at this. I did not realise how cheap an upgrade can be that beats my system. This was an eye opener to say the least! Appreciate every1's advice!

:D It's wierd when one looks back at how much was spent on a PC and was considered "pretty good". Still, nice to see people getting 5+ good years out of PC equipment these days.

The amount of technology you can fit onto the surface of R1 coin these days is amazing. :D
