Hi All,

I have a 4mbps line, the modem sync and 4096, when I do a www.speedtest.net I get from 1.2mbps to 2.6mbps, this is the same as www.gam.co.za.

I have called Telkom and they came out and tested the line and there is "nothing" wrong with the line.

The Telkom guy did a www.speedtest.net from his laptop on a Telkom account and he got 2.9mbps.He said it ust be with my ISP but I don't think so as I am on a capped Afrihost account and tried another Afrihost account and it stayed the same.

The guys that was here are NOT very clued up on ADSL, can any of you point me in a direction so that I can give them some data and stats so they can go back to their managers??

I am Jacobsdal in the Freestate and the exchange can't be full or congested...

Thanks in advance

your line is perfect dont think its a line problem unless exchange/dslam is limiting the speed sometimes

also go to command prompt and type tracert www.telkom.co.za > C:\telkom.txt then press enter and post whats in that text file if it works

did you phone telkom on 0800 375 375 to make sure its not congestion or a fault on exchange/dslam?

I've got the exact same problem (had it since May). My modem sync perfectly at 4mbps & 512kbps without dropping the connection ever. According to speedtest I've got perfect ping times (30ms to JHB from BFN), perfect upload speed (430kbps), but my downloads come in anything from 60kbps - 1.3mbps. I've tried different modems, and different ISP's (Telkom, Axxess and FNB).

What I've noticed is that early in the morning, around 5h30, all is OK. I get my normal ping, normal upload and a download of 3.4mbps. I also had the same speeds the whole of Sunday. I reported the problem in May, and the fault is still open. According to Telkom the problem is on the DSLAM, which they were not going to fix until August. I phoned them again today and they told me that the problem would be sorted out before the end of August on my DSLAM. They are apparently 'upgrading' the ports, which I suppose has got to do with the 8mbps speed increase. Go check your speed early in the morning, I guess you've got the same problem as I do.

Everything seems ok now, speedtest and gamco still shows 1.8mbps

Does noboby have any idea what I can show to the Telkom to prove that it is not my account, I tried an Axxess and Mweb account now and still stay at 2.1mbps

I have the same issue...
When i do speedtest i get 1 MB max....yet when i do multiple threads download i get full speed 4MB...so it's not the line...
Tried all uncapped, unshaped, moerse expensive accounts etc etc...nothing...
must be congestion on exchange?
