Get the 8600

I can run Crysis on medium detail at 30 fps at 1240x1024 with no AA. Using Windows XP.

However my card is overclocked a bit running at 700/900. Crysis is still playable when I set the clocks back to default.

Oh and stay away from any GDDR2 cards. They are not meant for games.

If you have to get one of the above, take the 8600. Just don't expect to play Crysis at 1600x1200 with 4xAA :D

Yes the GT is your best bet. Don't expect miracles, I'm not even expecting miracles when my 8800GT arrives :(.

Those cards are basicaly for workstations and are not very future proof with the 128bit bus its going to be bottlenecking all the time :(

IMO rather spend/save a little more and get a HD3850 it will pwn all of those cards and thensome! and in Crossfire it can keep up with a 8800GTX! for 1/3 of the Price!

It's about 1.7K and It's a real deal from ATI if you ask me!

On the Crysis Demo DX10 mode they tested 1280x1024 | No AA | No AF got about 38Fps Average all settings on Medium I can imagine at 1024x768 you would get about 45+ and in Dx9 you could go High/med @ 1280x1024 w/ 50+ fps

BTW no real diff in DX9/10 in crysis anyway :)

Hey Glordit, where is this from?

I agree, if you can afford it go for the HD3850 :)

"Croissdire"?

Never mind, saw the edit :D

LOL:D

:D I sometimes type too fast, and have like 30 tabs open when on the PC :D

The Radeon HD 3850 simpy blows the GeForce 8600 GTS away playing Crysis. With the 8600 GTS Superclock we found that we had to lower the resolution to 1024x768. At 1280x1024 performance was so low that we would have had to set many in-game options, including shader quality, to “Low” which just looks downright ugly in Crysis. At 1027x768 we could set everything to “Medium” except for shadows which still had to be set at “Low.” The Radeon HD 3850 on the other hand was able to play very well at 1280x1024 with everything on “Medium,” including shader quality and shadows. If you look at the graph you can see that even at higher settings the Radeon HD 3850 is still faster than the 8600 GTS.

Another consideration for him might be the 8800GT 256mb vers which will retail for 199$(but read somewhere they might drop the price even more?).

But all of this depends on how long you are willing to wait. 8800GT should be released in dec apparently. But as everyone has said the 3850 is an excellent card for the price ATM. Although the 8800GT 256mb will probably pwn it.

But there won't be 8800GT cards (nevermind 256MB) for another few weeks/months. :(

I'd go with the 3850 atm, should be cheaper than the 8800GT anyway.

C'mon EHV you know there are some available;) ATM the 3850 is the best bet.
But if he's not in a rush, then the 256mb GT might be a better bet.(it performs on par with the 512mb version at lower res).

And there should be stock initially.
