Need help deciding components for mid/high range pc

I intend trying to find the right combination of components to upgrade to a mid/high range pc.(view signature for my current specs)Bought an ati 2600 xt 512mb,but need help choosing bigger psu.(but thats another thread):

you might want to get more ram. Most have are getting more intensive and require more memory for textures and sound. Getting more Ram is nice boost in removing hitches when entering new areas in the game you play

Ya, get another gig of ram.

You plan on replacing everything? Including the 2600XT?

If you want to replace the CPU I'd go for an E8300 or something. Go for a 500W PSU to be on the safe side.

is it worth it going for expensive ram?
well,i can buy a gig of "good" ram for a grand or so,but wont 4 gigs of "normal ram" for the same price be better?eg.(im sure this is cheaper elsewhere)

I'd advise you to get 4GBs of normal RAM instead of 1GBs of gaming RAM

Well then.Thats exactly what I wanted to hear.Someone told me the difference in low latency ram compared to "standard/normal" ram will only be noticed by the boot up time of the pc using it.(Low latency ram is apparently a few {split}seconds)faster when booting up a pc.other than that, I heard the difference is so minute,it cant be differentiated by the naked eye.

was some oke pulling my leg?Or is this true?

Even if it is minutely faster (which is probably possible) it just doesn't justify the additional costs...

But normal Ram is ok, im using 2Gb DDR2 800 CL6 (i wanted CL5 but i got hussled), OCed to 942Mhz, and the differrence from my old DDR2 533 at CL4 was huge, benchmark score increased ALOT, and access times were better...

True, they are (usually) faster but the price just isn't justified

"Gaming RAM" isnt meant to be heaps faster, its supposed to be made for OCing, hence the heat spreaders. Normal RAM doesnt need heatspreaders as it doesnt get too hot at normal speeds. A proper set of OCing RAM will go way further than a set of normal RAM and you will be able to tighten the timings even further on it than on the normal stuff.
If you are into quantity and not quality and not looking to OC then stick to the normal stuff.
