"Gaming RAM" isnt meant to be heaps faster, its supposed to be made for OCing, hence the heat spreaders. Normal RAM doesnt need heatspreaders as it doesnt get too hot at normal speeds. A proper set of OCing RAM will go way further than a set of normal RAM and you will be able to tighten the timings even further on it than on the normal stuff.
If you are into quantity and not quality and not looking to OC then stick to the normal stuff.

well if price is no prob gaming ram is good

And thats what i meant, if you gonna OC, its better to have it... fine the price doesnt justify it, but depends what quality you need.

there is a difference between the gaming RAM and normal Ram...

First off where you will see the biggest difference with RAMs, is with their speed (800mhz etc)

then the thing with gaming ram is that it OC better, and has lower timing, eg find the info quicker and more efficiently)

But normal Ram is ok, im using 2Gb DDR2 800 CL6 (i wanted CL5 but i got hussled), OCed to 942Mhz, and the differrence from my old DDR2 533 at CL4 was huge, benchmark score increased ALOT, and access times were better...

No,I dont intend overclocking, its simply just for my pc since vista doesnt play well with my current 1gb A-data ddr2 667.

1)size (1meg;2 meg)
3)DDR speed (400;533;677;800 etc)
4)CL

From the above mentioned 3 qualities in which order should one go about buying ram?The way I see it,peope usually go for: first size then ddr speed then.CL this the correct way to go about buying ram?
(CL is latency right?)

Vista realy needs 2GB's or more ram... thats why I am sticking with XP ;)

Okay, if you not going to OC then just get 1 x 2GB DDR-800 or 2 x 1GB DDR2-800 chips of ram I say 2GB's, because...

1] It's Dirt cheap!
2] Everything runs faster with 2Gb's
:D

As for Particular brands, I see no difference Transcend, Kingson, Patriot... all the same :)

Normal ram FTW!
Overclocking ram is expensive and doesn't offer a real performance benefit other than in tests. If that's all you do with your PC all day great. If not then don't even bother.

Yeah well..I was thinking is 4 gb overkill? this is what i was looking at:
1)Patriot Signature Line Memory-DDR2-800MHz-4GB Kit (2x2GB)
(R 1,021)

2)Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 G-XMS2,with heatsink,2x2Gb/2048mb kit, ddr2-800( pc2-6400 ),CL5,1.8v-240pin-Lifetime Warranty
(R 1,129)

3)Patriot EP Series DDR2 800 4Gb (2 x 2Gb) PC2-6400 Low Latency Kit:
CL 4-4-4-12; 2.2v
(R 1,276)

4)Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX-XMS2,with DHX technology,Low-latency ,2x2Gb/2048mb kit,ddr2-800(pc2-6400),CL4,2.1v-240pin-lifetime warranty
(R 1,458)

5)Patriot EP Viper Series DDR2 800 4Gb (2 x 2Gb) PC2-6400 EL Kit :
CL 5-5-5-15; 2.3v
(R 1,531)

I dont know jack,to me,I look at this and say ''oh well, its 4 gigs ram!''
some of them dont state timings, does somebody have any of the forementioned ram?Which is best?

Why are you looking at the expensive sticks? Just under R800 you can get 2*2G DDRII 800 sticks from PC International.

See, he's quoting the prices for 2*2G DDRII 800 memory, and he doesn't want to OC so the cheaper the better.

Ah! 4GB's then :) my bad! still I think 2Gb's is enough but it just soo cheap these days!

Too bad my copy of XP only allows up to 3.5Gb's got 3 more slots for RAM left and they all lonely :p

I think the Asus P5B should support 2 x 2GB but I think unless you get 64bit Vista it will only see 3/3.5GB's *not too sure on my facts as I don't have Vista* :)

It doesn't really matter which operating system you have installed, if it's a 32-bit operating system then it'll only be able to address about 3.25GB of RAM. Have a look in the FAQ for a detailed explanation why :)

Thanks,so then should i rather buy 2*1 gb ddr2 800 (With my current 2*512 mb ddr2 667,that will make 3 gigs taking up all four slots)

BTW,if i mix DDR 667 with DDR 800,the ddr 800 will only be as fast as the ddr 667 right?

Yes, DDR2-800 will run at DDR2-667 speed in that case :)

I'd probably suggest that you use 2 * 1GB of DDR2-800 and 2 * 512MB of DDR2-800. That way your RAM will run in dual channel. :)

But the performance difference between DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 is not that pronounced in my experience.

You'll have to ask one of the other forumites about that, I'm still using a cheapie handle case so my knowledge regarding cases is somewhat...lacking :D

IMO I would get a cheap case and get a nice GPU :)
Otherwise beging a Gigabyte fan I would say the 3D Mars

What ever looks big, good air flow design, tool-less installation and incorporates cable management.
