Need help fast. Have to decide today. - All sorted, check last post :). TY GUYS!

I can get a 2008 HONDA CIVIC 2.0 i-VTEC Type R GT 3dr for R85k. Only has 75 000km and has a service plan till 2013.

It is a really good price but it seems too cheap. I am buying through a dealership.

What should I look out for? Car still looks great. I am just worried that the previous owner drove the living &^%* out of that engine. I am having someone I know run the plates to check for any accidents.

Any comments or advice?

Any warranty?
Service plan will NOT cover any breakages etc...

Also, Type-Rs have probably had the ring pulled out of them - and also they're quite pap up here at the reef.
 
Call a honda dealer, if this is not a honda dealer and give them VIN nnumber and check what has been replaced on the car in the past. You can assume that the car was enjoyed with some spirited driving so keep that in mind. Also remember that the service plan is up next year so you will more than likely get one "free" service only. Might have to get a maintenence plan to cover future expenses.
 
Jip I am planning on extending the service pan and getting the hollard warranty. I think I will call the honda dealer as well, never thought of that.
 
Thats about R70k under retail and R45k below trade. Be very careful, I suspect its either code 2 or 3. If its too good to be true....and all that. Ask the dealer who they got the car from and if they have a contact number which they should, get hold of previous owner.
 
yeah i also suspect its coded ...make sure the body and chassis is fine as well as the engine

if all is fine then go for it

or you will have problems later on
 
STAY AWAY. The dealer got it for less than R40k. It is a code 2/3 as mentioned.
 
For me, there is always a reason for the pressure. If its now or never then its never. Always never. The pressure is there to force you into an emotional decision.

Do you actually know what a Code 2 vehicle is? :confused:

I'll give you a hint, this is a code 2 vehicle.

Well the dealer is sending me the vin number and licence plate. Organised that i have time till end of the week. The thing is i had finance approved and everything for a 2006 civic 1.8 exi, was almost on my way to pick it up, then they called and said they sold the car to someone else by accident.

So I am pretty angry atm. Told them to find me a car asap cause I already have a buyer for my car. And i am not being very nice to them. :D

Code 1 New, unregistered or registered once.
Code 2 Used, Registered from new to used, second owner.
Code 3 Rebuild.

thats according to google

i always thought one was new or 2nd owner

2 was stolen and recovered

3 was accident damage rebuild
 
if this is the red one - have it checked out by the AA (or what ever its called now)
 
no it is not the same one. The dealership is buying it from a private owner and bringing it up from cape town for me, if the licence and vin number checks out. Apparantly it has FSH and has only had one owner
 
Let me tell you, I own one and there is NO WAY that you will get a 2008 Type R for that price. I don't wanna make u negative, but you just gonna buy ***** for yourself. Walk away mate!!

Well as Ive always known it and according to the South African insurance industry guidelines...

(i) Permanently demolished (Code 4)
(ii) Permanently unfit for use (Code 3)
(iii) Declared uneconomical to repair (Code 2)

Also stolen/recovered will still be a 2 generally and only show on police database as such.

but by all means correct me if I'm wrong, cos then Ive been wrong for the past 20 years long before Enatis existed.

After this- bye bye dealer. No way on earth I would do business there.
