ok, i've put hardy on a disk and i want to install it on my laptop.
i do however want to format my laptop first... is there a way i can do that with linux? or do i need to format it with windows, reinstall windows and then install linux?

also, would my vodacom 3g modem thing work on my laptop or do i need special linux drivers? and the driver cd that came with my laptop, will that still work or do i need to get linux drivers?

thanks =)

the hardy install routine will prompt you with choices what you want to do with your hard drive.
so yes, easy enough to blank the thing before installing.

dunno 'bout your 3g modem

holy crap that was quick.. ok cool. half of it solved!

Format it to what? do you want to install windows as well? If you do, and you want a format, and make the whole drive a windows partition, I would suggest formatting your laptop, install windows and get it set up. Then when in windows... put the ubuntu cd in, and do the install into a flat file.

A better choice would just to use the whole drive for linux with its ext3 file system. .. or install windows, and let linux resize the paritions so you can run each OS on its native fs.

It should be supported... use the forum search function.

thanks, seems to be working fine... i'l test the 3g and drivers as soon as setup finishes.
