Hello there,

So my girlfriend is up in Grahamstown and her laptop seems to have died on her. When she left it this morning she closed the lid to make it hibernate, when she got back to it now, it did not do anything so she pressed the power button to turn it off.

Now, when she turns it on, all the lights come on, but there is nothing at all on the screen. And it makes beeping noises.

The machine is an HP Pavillion DV6000 entertainment PC like this one: http://www.mobilewhack.com/reviews/hp_pavilion_dv6000_new_notebook.html

Cool, I will tell her that and see what comes of it.

She is on the phone with the HP SA support number right now. Not sure if it'll help much :p

Support have told her to take it in to PE to be fixed or swapped out - they say it is easier a display driver issue or something to do with hardware  :(

If its out of warranty anyway could she not open it up anyway and have a look? Or is there not going to be anything she can do about it?

I added 1Gb of RAM to my 2 month old notebook about 2 weeks ago - so my warranty is gone:o.

 should've taken it to the store where you bought it from and ask them in install the RAM for you.

unless she knows what she's doing, it will be rather pointless for her to open it up.

So I'll take it out and do that then:D. Will they know that I've already had it in?

LOL. usually the screws are slightly damaged after you open the laptop. also, sometimes the black comes off from the screws and you're left with the silver. that's when they'll see it was opened before. but you can obviously deny this :D and/or use a black coqui to cover it up.
also be aware if there is some kind of seal that might be there. i'm assuming that there weren't any?
