Hi Guys

I am in need of the following and ISP which can provided me 200-400ms during 8am-17:00 GMT+2 meaning core business hours
Is there any ISP's out there or which you guys can recommend, they must be preferably pre-paid.

I have tried:

Axxess - unshaped - 8am-17:00 - FAIL late night + weekends - PASS
Axxess - shaped - 8am-17:00 - FAIL late night + weekends - SO SO
Axxess 626 - Works ok but not a 8am-17:00 solution

Webafrica - unshaped - 8am-17:00 FAIL!! 21000ms latency during the day time after 17:00 it drops back to 300ms or lower weekends working perfectly well these so called "unshaped" ISP's does not seem to be performing at all.

Most of the above accounts work anything after 17:00 without any issues and weekends...

Any other recommendations appreciated.

Thanks

Space

Your best bet actually, is going to be NOT using a consumer ISP.

Instead you may need to look at business ISP's.
Be warned though, business packages with guaranteed throughput and all that you would require, will cost a pretty side more than commercial packages.

Flip dude ... playing WoW during business hours ... ouch!

On Afrihost mine's gone down a lot in the last week from 600-800ms to around 350ms.

Well I was always under the impression unshaped means " low latency" during business hours...

I am working mostly USA hours so thats why in need of ISP that can provide this service.

Thanks

Latency is going to depend on network load, and work hours is when load is the highest. Your ISP isn't really going to affect that much.

I'm going to suggest you try an unshaped Imaginet account, I'm not currently using them as I've just moved to a new house and need an ADSL line installed etc. Although for the +/- 8 Months which I used their 3GB unshaped package I cannot recall a single occasion that my ms was higher than 350ms. *Scouts Honor*. Whether I was raiding 25 man Ulduar or running around Dalaran, regardless of the time of day, I always had an extremely consistent ms of between 200ms - 350ms, at times in lower population areas I often hit the 180ms mark.

These were the results I had without using any funny proxies or tunneling services etc, the only addition was that I was using that registry thing, just search for it, there are lots of posts regarding that. Maybe I was just really lucky with the location of my house to the exchange, I don't know, but I'd definitely recommend at least testing a 1GB unshaped package with them. Only downside is they were more expensive than most other ISP for unshaped accounts if I remember correctly, but it was worth it.

Thanks so far for the replies.

But I seems to have this weird issue on the unshaped WA account.. 08:00 - 17:00 latency crazy. after that everything is fine.

After 17:00 latency back to 250ms-350ms...

Another theory I had about this is possible telkom line shaping during those hours?

Got a afrihost account peak hours 700ms-1000ms

Any else experiecning this?

Thanks

Space let me put it this way.
During the day, peak hours as it were, you are competing with EVERY COMPANY IN THE COUNTRY for internet access.

There is nothing "weird" going on.
This will happen no matter what connection you are on.

The only solution is to use a private dedicated connection, such as DigiNet (EXTREMELY expensive) or to use a Managed DSL provider (Still EXTREMELY expensive, but less than DigiNet).

Managed DSL providers basically sign a QoS agreement with you. This agreement states that they WILL mantain your bandwidth and service levels at whatever designated point.
What this means is, you're now PAYING FOR A GUARANTEED GOOD SEAT IN THE CHAOS during the day.
Obviously this comes with a hefty pricetag.

You will need to contact BUSINESS ISP's for this.
My recommendation, try IS (Internet Solutions).

Make sure to request the business division, and make sure you clearly state that you need a MANAGED line for MINIMUM THROUGHPUT required.

I warn you again... you are gonna have to open that wallet REALLY wide.

Have you actually tried to contact their support regarding this?

Your line or exchange must be overcrowded cause i use unshaped Axxess and get green latency in wow from 8 am to 5 pm it rarely goes to yellow averages between 200 and 350 ms. It stays like that anytime during weekends or night time.

Get a proxy (lowerping, gamemax, gamepath, gordon etc) with any of those ISP's (I prefer WA, CS, AH)

Yeah I must admit I love Lowerping, it is so addictive once you get started. Especially if you have been playing wow since it's release with 500-900 MS.

maybe not so cheap option, but prepaid, and once u have the lil modem, at R389 for 2gigs, vodacom hsdpa isnt half bad. i raid 25man content no probs, and if i get lag, everyone else in raid does too. get about 400-500ms, spiking up sometimes to 600ms. and i can actually put out 10k dps now :D mind, would love to see what my toon could do with 60ms :/

also dependant on whether ur local tower can handle hsdpa traffic etc. but i play some days, some nites, and its peachy. u will need to apply to the b*stards at vodacon to get ur modem line unlocked, and they force shape it for you:mad: takes about 2 days
