Hey guys. I need some suggestions on hosting a few websites. I am currently signed up with mochahost.com on their entry reseller package (http://www.mochahost.com/resellerSolutions.php).

This offers 1TB transfer, 7.5gb disk space, CPANEL, WHM, unlimited domains, linux hosting for $13 pm. I don't have many issues with them, except that the websites I host are sometimes a bit slow. I thought about moving my sites back to SA (was hosting with hetzner previously) and need some suggestions on current good deals. I'm really not going to host the entire internet on my account, so I don't need unlimited storage and bandwidth. 10GB transfer and 4GB storage should be OK.

I need 24/7 live support (email support is OK, but would prefer live chat). Good service is a MUST. I do not want to host with Hetzner again as I had several bad experiences with them. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I rent a server in Canada ... but it depends how tech savvy you are they offer reboot etc support but the entire server is yours no limits on transfers and 500gb disk space linux box will set you back $60 pm

It seems like a really good offer, but overkill for my needs. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I'm with JustHost. They're in the UK though.

Been with them for 3 months and have been a bit of a pain with config' requests. All handled promptly and efficiently.

So far I only have good things to say about them.

If you decide to go with them, consider using the link in my sig' - helps me out too. :)

Cheers.

Gimme a shout if you haven't found anything yet. We have servers in South Africa & USA, with various price levels and features.

Hi,

I was actually just reading one of your posts on webhosting talk! I have two things I need to consider together with my initial request for info.

1. For some reason WHM and CPANEL give issues when I use them from my office (keep asking for authentication). Have you got any demo cpanel or whm accounts I can test from here? If they also have the auth issues, I will have to live with it.
2. I have severe speed problems with my current host, which they refuse to acknowledge. They run tests from their side from their network, which is obviously VERY fast. Have you got any sites I can test the speed on? Preferably something with a download so I can get a clear indication of transfer speeds. I need something in ZA and US as I'm not sure where I'll be hosting.

Please comment here as someone else might benefit from this.

Have you tried using the alternative (port 80) access urls ( cpanel.yourdomain.co.za and whm.yourdomain.co.za ) to bypass firewall restrictions?

What auth issue is this exactly? It could just be a misconfiguration on the other server? Due to security reasons we don't have a demo account, but if you PM / email me your Name, email address & the domain you wish to test, then I'll setup an account on both a USA & ZA server for you and email you the login details. You can then keep, and test the account for a month and then decide which one you want to keep :) Generally you would only need to access cPanel, since WHM is a control panel for resellers and VPS & dedicated server owners. So just tell me which account type you need as well.

To test a USA based website, you can goto http://www.softdux.com & http://www.rentalens.co.za for a ZA based website. We don't have any downloadable content on our own websites, but I can look for a site on the server quickly with a download, or just upload something for you to download, and I'll post it back here.

What issues did you have with Hetzner?
The company I work for only hosts with Hetzner.... and I've never had any support or technical problems.
You can try hosting with Afrihost though.... yes, their hosting is better than their internet :p

I have done that yes. If I keep hitting enter it eventually goes in, but it prompts at least 10 times for every request I make. This only happens from my office. All other locations work 100%.

I am with serv.co.za on the Serv S1 package and currently have no issues with them. check this out: http://www.serv.co.za/main/hosting.html

Their servers are located in the US

I have constant problems with them. I fight almost every single month about their billing as they never seem to allocate payments and I have to send them all the payment confirmations again each month.
Im quite over them really, they started out well and are pretty useless to me now.

I've been using Hetzner's co-located dedi servers for 3 years now, no problem whatsoever! Almost zero downtime and each and every config request has been handled efficiently!

It just keeps asking me for my username/pass. If i keep hitting enter, it eventually goes in. I will check those sites during the course of today. Thanks for your help!

Their lack of caring is what got me. Every upgrade/downgrade of my account went with a few hours worth of downtime. I can't remember the exact details or what errors I got, but it's enough for me to not use them again.
