Need Ritalin help

Something the layman may also not know is that it's a fast acting, short span drug. It's effect is only around 2-3 hours and then it is completely metabolized. That's why genuine sufferers whom actually require the medication have multiple doses in the day or take a slower, long release type like LR or concerta.

Is a balancing act though like any medication and really shouldn't be played with, even by gp I reckon.

And your experience how was it? And did you have the ADHD?

It helps/helped. Do I have ADHD? Honestly, I don't know. I've communicated with both a psychologist and psychiatrist about it, and I tick most of the relevant boxes, so if I wanted the label I guess I could have it.

Medication should follow diagnosis though, and the use of drugs like these should really be monitored.

Also, as people have mentioned, the generic methylphenidate is indeed very short acting, but the long-acting versions are much more expensive (and in my case, I found not to be very effective).

Again, though, best advice you've received is to see a professional, even if it's going to be hard to organise.

I sure as heck wish I was diagnosed correctly when in school as opposed to being in my twenties. Even now it works great when at work.

OP surely you can see a gp? They are not as expensive as specialists and prescribe accordingly. If cost is an issue start off with methylphenidate. If it helps then dr is on the right track.

This. Just go to your GP, I also got methylphenidate from mine in Uni and it is exactly what you need. Much easier to control your dosage than Ritalin and it is quick release so it doesn't keep you buzzing the whole day.

Side note: Taking this kind of stuff messes with my skin.

Neucon user clocking in here. I can confirm that it has helped me so much. Even my wife can tell when I've taken it.

So, let me give an example of what it does for me:- I go to make coffee and put the kettle on. Then I get milk from the fridge. When I open the fridge I see the water dispenser is empty so I go to get a glass to fill it. When I get to the sink I find that the dishes are dirty and haven't been loaded into the dishwasher so I start loading the dishwasher. I need a dish towel to empty the dishwasher and there aren't any so I go to the cupboard to get a dish towel, I can't find a dish towel so I go look for one.....and on and on it goes.

When I take Neucon, I just make the coffee and it helps me concentrate on the task at hand. I can't believe what a huge difference it makes in my life. I am 39 and I have only just started taking it. I wish I had started earlier when I was battling at school.
Is it an over the counter pill?

Respect dude, thanks for sharing. People often have a hard time understanding how these disorders affect others, and you gave one of the most practical and eloquent descriptions I've ever read. I'm happy you've found something that helps you.

I need anyone to help me with Ritalin, I am really struggling with school work. Being in the village everyone saying I am too lazy to do work not knowing that I am suffering and my parents can't afford psychiatric and psychologist as they dont come any cheap. Is there any one who can help?

Ritalin will help whether you really suffer from ADHD or not - it helps everyone, and that is why it is a schedule 6 drug. University students get it illegally to help them study for exams - you can focus for hours with it.

With that being said, do you really NEED it? When you say you are suffering, could that mean there are things going in your personal life which make it difficult for you to study? How is your mood, on average? Are you happy?

ADHD is real, but Ritalin is overprescribed. Most people who take it, don't need it. It is just a quicker fix than expecting people to sort their personal lives out.

Plus, I believe that our modern school system is not natural. It expects everyone to be a perfect little robot and sit for 6 hours, but not many people can actually do that. Especially not boys. Don't be too hard on yourself, is what I'm saying.

On the Ritalin topic, a friend of mine just started giving it to her young son (8), who has severe ADD and was the classic classroom terror, unable to ever focus in class. The same week he started taking it, his mom got a letter from her son's teacher saying that she's noticed a massive change in his behaviour and he's now attentive and completing his assignments.

It's not a perfect drug, apparently her son crashes off it around 3pm and gets very tired and unable to focus any further, but early signs are it's going to a life-changer for his academic career.

No, unfortunately not. I had to make an appointment with a doctor and talk through the kind of issues I experienced. The thing is, my son has it too (he's 8). He's been battling to concentrate and whatnot in class. The doctor told my wife it was genetic, so that's when we looked into it for me. Lo and behold, I need it too. After describing how things were for me, she was happy to prescribe it to me.

Initially, my son was prescribed Methylphenidate and my wife suggested I try one. I couldn't believe what a huge difference such a small little pill could make.

Depending on the drug type, take some salt with the story. As said earlier, it is a rapidly absorbed drug with short time span ( 2 - 3 hrs ). If given in the morning, the child would require either a top up or a longer lasting variant.

Weird thing is, do most folks realize its actually a stimulant? People think of it as a sedative but its not.

There are plenty of longer lasting variants around (including under the Ritalin brand name).

Yeah, crazy stimulant. I ended up stopping using Concerta because I struggled to sleep (but then it would keep me awake all day after I took it) and my blood pressure got pretty high while on it.

Just remember that just because Ritalin "works" for a person, does not mean that person has ADD. It "works" for everyone - that is why it is a Schedule 6 drug, the strictest classification available under South African law.

I am not saying that the little boy does not have ADD - he might have - but Ritalin working or not, does not prove that he does or does not have it.
