hi there I seem to have hit a brick wall and hoping that somebody here has a hammer to knock it down

a client has got a lot of documents going to different people/departments now everytime you get a document you have to sign for it, and it is a waste of time now i have found a document repository system so they can have all the documents in one central place on the network.

seems simple so far but here comes the wall...

by law they still have to have a freaking signed registry for every file they recieve and that defeats the whole repository system

Question time

how would i get a doc/excell/text (##@@#!% any file) to update who downloads the file ( instead of having to physically sign for the damm thing )

I am doing a website for them and they asked if I could help them set this up, now it is contract work and if somebody can help me find a solution I will pay them ( if the client excepts the quote and the thing works )

i think MS Sharepoint Services can do that
that is, keep a record of who opened the file

Have you tried creating your own system perhaps using your linux box and apache? Create a document management system in PHP where users can log in, have a fully indexed system of the documents on the network and then just logging their activity, if a file is downloaded log the timestamp, the document downloaded and the user who has done this... Shouldn't take you more that a day or two to get this up and running... Oh, and its completely free if you do it yourself!

interesting ty I am busy looking at it now.

and thanks Lord-Nikon for your input, but I couldnt be bothered to spend that much time on this project since their budget is pretty small, and this is a side project
