Need to register car

Change of ownership (blue doc I think), yellow document from owner and you might have to do license, if needed (green document). O and roadworthy.

EDIT: Remember your ID and proof of residence

Thank you. We've got the Change of Ownership doc. Is the yellow document from the previous owner?
I phoned Menlyn Roadworthy Center and they want the previous owner's Certificate of Registration? The car wasn't paid of so he doesn't have that:confused:

Oh boy, buying bicycles is so much easier...

Uhm...you can't buy a car without having the registration documents.

And he can't sell the car if he hasn't paid it off....as he doesn't own it if that is the case...the bank does.

What exactly have you gotten yourself into? Sounds very very dodgy.

He still owed R117 000 on the car, I bought the car for that price, paid directly into Wesbank's account to settle his debt.
So he didn't 'own' the car, it still belongs to Wesbank. But where do I get the Certificate of Registration?
Should I phone the bank?

Yes Wesbank will have it, but they will only issue it to the original owner.

And normally it takes about 2 weeks or so to be delivered.

Thanks Colin and Sauron.
This is not good news, because we have 21 days to register the car and more than a week has passed...

You shouldn't bee too worried about the 21 days thing. You should still be fine. Just let him get the registration papers, then you go to the license department with all the things I mentioned above.

you really have to hope he does not was to screw you over. The bank can only give him the reg document, and if he wants to be funny, he could keep it from you until the yellow form expires.

Also, why buy a car of 117k without knowing what to do?

What difference does it make whether the car costs R117 000 or R20 000? We all have to learn somehow.
I thought I knew what to do. Except for this one thing which I forgot about.

Did you get any paperwork at all from the seller?

Did he make out an invoice for you?

Yes, I got all necessary papers for Wesbank to approve the loan.

As I paid the money into the Wesbank account, Wesbank gave me an invoice.

Uhm.

Did the seller and you write/sign a doc stating that he is selling you the car for RX, stating names and ID numbers?

If not it seems you paid off the guy's car and (on paper) you got nothing...

Interesting then that if they are aware of the entire transaction that they didn't issue the registration documents to you as you technically bought the car from them.

No, we didn't fill in a form like that, but he filled in a Notification of change of ownership form.

I was thinking the same thing!

Okay.
So I went to TitleGuard today and got the new registration paper. It has been registered under Wesbank's name (which I understand).
Now I still need to get a new license disc and new number plates. Everything seems in order now.

I have a Certificate of Registration with me stating that my wife is the owner of the car.
Wesbank says the previous owner is still the owner of the car.
Menlyn Roadworthy Center says a Mr Clark is now the owner of the car...:wtf:

Is it normal procedure to first register the vehicle on someone else's name before you register the car on the new owner or is something fishy going on here?!?!

Edit: No one, not me, my wife, the previous owner, Wesbank or Titleguard knows who Mr Clark is...:erm:
