to the point...

I have a client who runs a local MS SQL database on a pc at his main branch. He is opening a second branch and needs a fast and stable connection between the client pc's at branch 2 and the server pc at branch 1.

The pushing and pulling of data is too slow via Hamachi and OpenVPN when using the application interface and we need a faster solution.

They are running a 4mb line at both branches.

Branch 1 has about 20 people who use the internet all day as well as 3 other branches that also use hamachi to connect to the server database.

I have been reading here about Diginet lines but it seems very expensive for what you get.

Any thoughts?

We use Mweb business, which gives us 5 fixed IP addresses, and have exposed a SQL server on one of those IP addresses, our speed is quiet good actually :)

Thank you ijacobs3. We have looked at that but the result would be the same for us in this particular circumstance.

You need more bandwidth or look at a better client/server side setup.

Check what you are getting for upload speeds.

You might also want to use QoS for the Sql traffic

Yeah - 4 meg is only one way. One of the sides is sending the data at a max of 512kb/sec.

Look at putting in a diginet between the sites?

SQL over adsl,kill me now

The type of VPN will make very little difference here as your problem is the uplink speeds ( 512kbps uplink on your ADSLs I assume )

Possible options:
1) Diginet
2) Database replication with compressed log shipping
3) Terminal services clients to HO
