Neo beginnings

Neotel will be just as rubbish (if not more so) than telkom.

Complete and utter waste.

there's nothing wrong with more for the same price provided that the more is actually services that you want.

We've definately heard this somewhere b4

"Its consumer offering is ready to go but won't be launched until first quarter 2008 or, at the latest, the second."

Latest third quarter, fourth quarter .... sixth quarter... WAIT

There is no sixth quarter is there!!!!!

Damn lets try and make the year 2008 a bit longer so we can accomodate for Neotel's lack of ability to keep any schedules and save them some face!!!!

omg..

well i use my net mainly for some browsing and to play neverwinter nights online. luckily for me nwn is a lot more forgiving than an fps when it comes to latency. its actually still fairly playable with a 1000 ping. not as enjoyable but still playable. so wireless may be an option for me. so if neotel ever decide to get off their fat bums and launch consumer services i may go that route. until then im stuck with the retards at good old telscum.

Are there any ISP's that offer Neotel type of accounts, in the style of SAIX vs IS accounts? I'd love to get off the Telkom backbone and start using someone else, as long as they can guarantee me the same latency and functionality as Telkom Unshaped...

Yeah. It doesn't seem as if their focusing(or caring) about the consumer as yet. So why are'nt the ISPs, atleast, riding on their backbone(if you are even noticing a pun, sies!)

Seems like MWeb, IS and Web Africa are using them for something...

Neotel is actively pursuing the country's top 350 organisations and has recently signed up clients such as Standard Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, Investec Bank, MWeb, Internet Solutions, Web Africa, Mittal Steel, Tata, academic network Tenet, the State IT Agency, arivia.com, TeleTech, Transtel, MTN and Cell C.

so does that mean IS will soon have a neotel product on offer, the network that neotel has up and running so far must be so fast...

Neotel is still Notel and could not roll out anything to the general public even if they had a roll of cable in front of them...

Now I wonder where I heard that next quarter crap before...

I want to play games online. Wireless DONT work due to high latency.

Any idea what kind of latency is acceptable for gaming?

With the latest terminal equipment, Neotel's CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev A network should be able to achieve an average (air interface) latency below 50 milliseconds. (Obviously, the rest of the network also matters.) Not sure how this rates.

Currently using WebAfrica and a local IS account for R130. if they can beat that they will getting my money.
