Neo beginnings

The point is pressure

What's the point then?
They do not need to engage in an out and out price war, at least not yet anyway. What they are doing is the softly softly approach as the pie is a lot bigger than just little ole RSA and they realise this.

What they can do very effectively in that softly softly approach is to gain friends and influence people. By providing twice the service at the same price point they are "under promising and over delivering" and this way they can quietly pick up major contracts for very big corporates who if you look carefully have a presence in other African markets.

Lemme get this straight, they want people to pay the same but get "more".

Honestly, this is not going to turn out good for SA consumers.

Prepare to apply vaseline to your bum.

I'll sign up tomorrow if they can give me a 4Mbps ADSL exchange in my area, I can see the major Telkom exchange from my flat window but I'm still stuck at 584kps :P

Finally some movement from Neo. :) I really hope that with Neo gaining more market share, that Telkom will start focussing more on its own customer base. A price war is obviously not the answer, but service delivery and quality is what counts, maybe Neo can give us more... maybe not...:o

Its consumer offering is ready to go but won't be launched until first quarter 2008 or, at the latest, the second.

I don't know if they are going to hit this. Hopefully they can provide cheaper international bandwidth to the ISPs so that they will drop their data prices. Other than that I don't know if they will really affect consumers for months, maybe years if the delays on their consumer services continue.

If not, then third quarter. Fourth quarter in time for Chrismas. Or at the very latest first quarter 2009. Perhaps in time for FIFA? 2010? 2011? Fourth Quarter 9999?

mmmm...yes yes
I want to play games online. Wireless DONT work due to high latency.
WHEN is Neotel offering FIXED line internet to us humble public?
Hav'nt heard a peep about that yet...

Oh well good to see things are actually moving. :D

lol, they are installing Fire cables in PE as week speak :) don't know when I'll get some of that fast goodness... :( anything is better than 64k wireless trust me!

They seem to be doing a lot quietly under the noses of telkom. Until telkom greedy claws are off the in/out links of the country nothing can change.

Well if I'm not mistaken, they've got access to SAT3 now, but does that mean that they will be able to give decent prices on the bandwidth from the cable?
But the Local Loop is still Telscum's so the true advantage of it is not there I imagine
I'm just sick of hearing that the corporates are being seen to and we have to wait like chicks in a nest waiting on momma bird to drop the worm down our throats.
Its been a long time and I'm hungry  :o

No, it is NOT ready to go or they would have launched it to be in time for the xmas season.
