think its the CPE that sits on the roof and directs to one of the towers , i had telkom Wimax back in the day but they had no plans in upgrading the speeds beyond 512k.

Have neotel expanded their coverage for wi-max yet? Desperately want to have uncapped service but seem to be located in an area that is serviced by nobody (Telkom refuse to replace stolen lines), never mind the fact that I'm a stones throw away from Fourways :wtf:

I tried using the neotel website coverage map but it seems that the coverage area would change depending if I zoomed in or out, so I presume that is not working as intended.

Thanks, but as stated:

Secondly, the address it locates is a bout three blocks away from my home and when I try to manually pinpoint the location it loads forever without actually drawing the overage overlay.

Phool,

Make sure you select the Post paid option in the beginning. Then do the address inputs. So it plots 3 block from you house. You know more or less where your house is. If it is covered, your maybe in luck, because you still may have a tree of building problem that is between you and the tower. If you know where the tower is, get on you roof to try and spot it, from where you are assuming the antenna will be installed, e.g. chimney etc. If you can't see the tower, you probably won't get the service.
Remember to select Wimax service (you can do that anytime after search.

Tip 1, Try LTE option as well - also available soon, according to MyBB.

Tip 2, use the back function on your browser, then you can edit the address to try and get a closer location. If you use the "Search Again" button, you have to retype all info...pita....

What's the upload speed on Neotel Wimax? Discovered today that I'm in range and desperately looking at getting rid of my iBurst.

Also see I'm in the LTE coverage - do we have any idea what the pricing will look like?

From a sales rep:

Kindly note that LTE hasn't been rolled out as yet, only Wimax you can get now.

For uncapped services we have to send out a technician who will come and do
a line of sight to check for the signal strength. If he does pick up the
signal, he will install same time.

Note the following
1. The devices that we install will remain as property of Neotel
2. All contracts are 24 months
3. If you terminate before 24 months we will charge you R1000 termination
fee and then come and pick up the devices
4. All our packages have fair user polices but you can you as much data at
the same monthly fee.
5. We charge R500 installation
6. Package comes with 1 IP address with no option of additional IP address
7. The service does not come with a email address, if you have a email that
you would like to use from another company, you will have to contact them
and ask them to relay SMTP from their side so that you can be able to send
and receive emails on our service.

1Mbps is R499
2Mbps is R749
4Mbps is R999
6Mbps is R1499
All contracts are 24 months

Ordered Friday 16th, installed on Thursday 22nd (could've been sooner but earlier didn't suit me)

I ordered the 6Mbps connection but after installed found it capped at 1Mbps... Called them and asked what's up, got some sad story about my connection not 'being live yet' and 'it will sort itself out' and even got a reference number et al.

Friday still 1Mbps, called again and this time was told my account says 1Mbps package - was transferred to the sales department where it was fobbed off as a 'misunderstanding' and I will be migrated to 6Mbps - give it 24 hours i was told.

Saturday I tested and lo and behold, still 1Mbps, called again and was told "no you are still on the 1Mbps package" apparently no migration, nor any migration request. Also the person helping me on Saturday couldn't do anything for me since only the salesman that initiated your account can effect changes (and of course that person would not be working on Saturday) - God forbids your salesman ever goes on leave or worse, leave the company....you'd be screwed forever.

The person on Saturday was quite courteous though and mentioned to me that clearly the salesman who told me I will be migrated and it will take 24 hours lied to me....(have to love the frankness). The only help he could offer me on Saturday was to accept my request that they please come on Monday and remove all the equipment (I once again got a reference number).

Not holding my breath that will happen either.

Perhaps others have more luck but frankly life is too short to deal with bad service like this, very responsive when selling, but the moment you signed that order form it's impossible to get hold of anyone or get anything done / changes. Buyer beware

Ps. On the 1Mbps connection, latency is pretty much on par with (or slightly worse) than both 8ta 3G and Cell C 3G - average between 45ms and 70ms ping times on speed test. pingtest.com results is pretty poor, line quality was C or D, high latency and a lot of jitter. Definitely not good for VOIP et al and suspect it wouldn't be that great for streaming video either (couldn't exactly test that at 1Mbps)

So have you cancelled or are you hoping that they will sort it out? Do you think the latency and jitter will get better as the connection speed goes up? E.g. 6mbps

Who knows how they will react? I meant it (and still do) as a cancellation.

Re latency/jitter, line speed should have no impact on that - it's a "quality of line" test. If it was copper, higher speed could actually make it worse.

Here's a ping test from this morning - http://www.pingtest.net/result/85541814.png

I am going to their Cedar Branch today to order 4mb. Lets see how it turns out.

So? How did it go?

I didn't have 3 months bank statements on me :( will go back today or tomorrow. If I do order today or tomorrow do you think it would be installed by the end of the week so I can cancel my ADSL?
