NeoConnect Prime and NeoConnect Lite

Unlimited data at 156k would be fine for an SMME's e-mail.

Might consider it for such an application in a few months once Neotel has proven itself, and offers a Ethernet unit.

But for home use... far too pricey.

Looking for a product around R150pm including hardware.

At present Neotel is competing with VC and MTN.

Fixed-Mobile - almost a cellphone with fixed line call rates.

And that is exactly Neotel's problem as well. They can't compete with Telkom on ADSL until the local loop is unbundled and the Seacom lands.

I understand what you're saying, but this is good news as this will force down all prices in the market.

I'll bet you that Vodacom will soon slash their data prices again. And this will put pressure on MTN to do the same. And this will put pressure on Telkom to do the same.

And you can be guarenteed that Neotel's prices will drop as they get more people signing up!!

Indeed, fair enough. I was just hoping for something that I personally could rejoice about and this just isn't it :(

They need to get the lack of ethernet sorted asap before I would consider it at all to be honest, then the rest needs to be sorted as well- like pricing, speeds and caps...A long road ahead I fear.

I have an answer for this but it will require a bit of support, the basic details are you will get a 2meg up and 2m down account - concurrency dependant.

Simply put with a 1000 people per node in a local area we can build a cable network with low latency.

For all or intents and purposes it will be an optical network.

The user buys their own equipment and the initial fee is R500 plus R100pcm. They can use the cable connection for phone calls etc etc. Should I have enough money to buy Broadcast rights we can eventually have TV down the cable too. Because it is optical it will be relatively simple to upgrade to a 100mps connection.

As it will be based on a mesh system/p2p it is highly unlikely that once fully set up it will ever suffer crashes unless the supplier fails, but hey if we have enough money and the local loop unbundling actually goes ahead we can get our own undersea cable!

Ok so here is the question, do you know of anyone who might be interested in helping set up a node in the local area with enough users for this community/co-operative based operation to get some traction?

When I say to people this is possible they are understandably cautious but as you all know South Africa is at the point that the USA was at 15 years ago and the UK 5-8 years ago. Those who are brave enough to grab this opportunity will more than likely make a bit of money but only after three years.

Should you be interested I will be setting up a special web site about this soon but in the means time please use the contact form

And let me know what your interest is, if you are a venture capitalist well, then lets talk, if you like me have faith that by looking towards the future we can together make the changes we want, then let me know anyway. If you want to subscribe then let me know that too. When we get enough subscribers we can get a investor on-board who does have enough cash.

To make a million doesn't take a lot but to make it for twenty years takes planning for the next 100 years - where will you be in thirty years from now?

TO pay the rent I do SEO& SEM this lingerie web site has gone from 0 - 2 in the Google rankings in 8 weeks and should be at 4 in 6 months to see what other results I have gotten for my clients all of whom have gotten to first position for their chosen keywords click here and follow the links on the right to see for yourself.

WTF?

YACBBS* in South Africa. Yay.

*Yet another crap Broadband service

156kbps ? .... what the hell.

I moved away from Dual ISDN years ago ....

Couldnt they at least compete with Telkom's entry level which is 384 ?

I could be wrong, however the Lite package seems to be aimed at people that primarily want voice services, and not so much data services.

NeoConnect Prime seems the option to go for in my case. Though the peak speads need to independently verified before they sign me up.

IIRC Neotel said they will be using WiMAX to compete in the Broadband space?

Well unfortunately they're not an option for me then as much as i wanted them to be. Neo Prime is too much (R600) and Neo Lite 156kbps is way to slow, i curse at video streaming on 384

A 156k connection, what happened to the minimum requirements to call it broadband and it seems we are going backwards here rather than forwards.

Dude, where else are you gonna get those alleged speeds, with a 10GB cap?

What is the data costs for 128k isdn where you'll use it flat-out during callmore times? Disconnections excluded - let's assume you're able to connect once and stay connected for the duration of the callmore period the whole month.

I agree that 156k is too slow for some people, but uncapped - it will be a good thing if you've got kids in the house - at least you know they won't be hogging youtube a lot :D

-- and you can download to your heart's content if you're patient.

-- but it still leaves a lot to be desired, but certainly is a step into the right direction.

Neotel is testing the waters here, and they want to see what the network performance is like before bumping the speeds up - no good in offering a super deluxe package if the speed requirements can't be met.

The mere fact that comparisons are being drawn with ISDN is quite worrying. Talk about a step backwards!

I agree that the fact it is uncapped is nice, But good luck watching many Youtube vids at those speeds :(

I do not miss those, funny how SAIX Maintenance always seemed to happen Friday at midnight and Saturday at midnight ... did wonders for reconnects.

It's not just video streaming that's a pain at those speeds, any media rich websites, and there seems to be more and more heavy flash sites out there as the rest of the world advances, go to URL and wait a few minutes while the page loads.

Agreed. Even on a 4Meg line some sites take a few seconds to load. At <20k/sec some sites are going to take an age just to load or navigate which is going to make browsing awful :(
