"Nice". Why do I still have to pay for a telephone if I only want data?

so its either 10gb at 2.4mbs or uncapped at 156k...
poor choices imo.
should be uncapped 2.4mbs for a higher price.

why does this country suck so much? (not meant to be answered)

Nice.

I currently pay R400 for 2GB on 3G. R469 for uncapped sounds very good.

Even at 156k (almost 20 KB/s), you'll still be able to download a LOT more than anything else at that price.

I like this a lot. :)

The 2G option seems a bit pricey at R299, so much for Neotel......guess I won't be signing up with them after all.

If a call comes in it will stop your connection, not drop it. Also something to consider. I assume never give out your phone number to avoid incoming calls...

I need a thousand people for a cable link up

I have an answer for this but it will require a bit of support, the basic details are you will get a 2meg up and 2m down account - concurrency dependant.

Simply put with a 1000 people per node in a local area we can build a cable network with low latency.

For all or intents and purposes it will be an optical network.

The user buys their own equipment and the initial fee is R500 plus R100pcm. They can use the cable connection for phone calls etc etc. Should I have enough money to buy Broadcast rights we can eventually have TV down the cable too. Because it is optical it will be relatively simple to upgrade to a 100mps connection.

As it will be based on a mesh system/p2p it is highly unlikely that once fully set up it will ever suffer crashes unless the supplier fails, but hey if we have enough money and the local loop unbundling actually goes ahead we can get our own undersea cable!

Ok so here is the question, do you know of anyone who might be interested in helping set up a node in the local area with enough users for this community/co-operative based operation to get some traction?

When I say to people this is possible they are understandably cautious but as you all know South Africa is at the point that the USA was at 15 years ago and the UK 5-8 years ago. Those who are brave enough to grab this opportunity will more than likely make a bit of money but only after three years.

Should you be interested I will be setting up a special web site about this soon but in the means time please use the contact form

And let me know what your interest is, if you are a venture capitalist well, then lets talk, if you like me have faith that by looking towards the future we can together make the changes we want, then let me know anyway. If you want to subscribe then let me know that too. When we get enough subscribers we can get a investor on-board who does have enough cash.

To make a million doesn't take a lot but to make it for twenty years takes planning for the next 100 years - where will you be in thirty years from now?

TO pay the rent I do SEO& SEM this lingerie web site has gone from 0 - 2 in the Google rankings in 8 weeks and should be at 4 in 6 months to see what other results I have gotten for my clients all of whom have gotten to first position for their chosen keywords click here and follow the links on the right to see for yourself.

156k uncapped?

is better than a piddlydiddly 64k/128k isdn connection...

I shall investigate further...

And what's more, you'll most likely get very close to the 156k speed as it runs on the same network as the 2.4Mbps service.

So you'll get 20 KB/s just about all the time. Plus, NO dial-up charges, ISP costs or installation.

Now, if only they can increase their coverage quick :(

Some strange offerings so far from Neotel. Hard to see who they are targetting really. Slow uncapped wireless seems a bit odd to me.

I thought the idea of wireless was that it was fast?

Still, at least they are offering some form of competition to Telkom. Still nothing at all that interests me yet though. :|

Does anyone know if the phone has an external antenna option? because my iburst modem doesn't work inside the house so I'd assume the neotel wouldn't either.

Please keep in mind that this is NOT an ADSL replacement. This is meant to take on VC and MTN for 3G customers, and as such it is a brilliant offering for those of us who can't get ADSL.

This is a big step forward. Where else in SA can you get unlimited internet for R469 / month all inclusive??

People need to stop with their unrealistic fantasies about Neotel giving us all uncapped, superfast, supercheap ADSL without LLU and only a 120Gbps SAT-3 cable!!

Remember, this includes the CDMA device at R80 / month.

Still expensive as I am paying Tescum R145 or all off peak calls are free inclusing line rental. Neotel minutes are cool, but no-one is on Neotel and the gigs work out to be then about R75 a gig consider R299-R145=R154

That is the problem. I am waiting for Neotel to compete with Telkom for landline and ADSL. I thought that is what SNO (second national operator) was meant to stand for...

Exactly. The Telscum R145 deal is not too bad really. Includes line rental and as many off peak calls as you like.

And that is exactly Neotel's problem as well. They can't compete with Telkom on ADSL until the local loop is unbundled and the Seacom lands.

I understand what you're saying, but this is good news as this will force down all prices in the market.

I'll bet you that Vodacom will soon slash their data prices again. And this will put pressure on MTN to do the same. And this will put pressure on Telkom to do the same.

And you can be guarenteed that Neotel's prices will drop as they get more people signing up!!
