Neotel NeoConnect comparison

I read through this thread and what a number of people are missing is the fact that this is not ADSL. The Neoconnect offers are CDMA meaning cellphone technology. So the only proper comparison is between Neotel and the other wireless/cellphone providers.

90%+ of all people don't care how they are connected to the internet as longs as they perceive it to be fast and cost effective.

The comparisons made are therefore very valid. It compares internet connectivity with internet connectivity - no matter the techology, wires, fibers or antennas associated with it.

I'm in the other 10% then

You're not taking into consideration the overhead of getting the ADSL line.

Unless you already have a voice line: ordering that line, providing the documentation if you're a rental tenant, waiting for installation, and paying rental for a voice service you don't even want are all big negatives when comparing ADSL to anything else.

vs.

Strange that AFTER they got access to the Sat3 landing station they lost all ability to "leverage the VSNL shareholding in SAT3 to provide its clients with more affordable bandwidth"

Big surprise there...

Yeah - thats always been the gripe heh...

I was about to sign on the dotted line UNTIL I read the contract...

RPM, in your article you state:

However in their T&C's that you sign on they say:

So the two arent tying up.

Now what ?

thats worrysome

This might be the wrong thread to ask this, but I still haven't come across any thread that answers whether there is some way to share the internet that Neotel is currently offering across more than 1 computers. Personally I would switch as soon as Neotel has coverage here in CT, but since there are currently 3 computers in the house not being able to connect more than 1 computer is a big problem.

Where can i get hold of Neotel? Somebody post me a telephone number or some. Im tired of using Vodacom's 115k with 2Gb for R389. Im going 4 NEOTEL.

I will have to test again, but the P2P speeds seemed slower than standard surfing. It is however dependant on many factors (like seeds etc) - some files came down rather fast, others took a very long time...

The latest episodes of Battlestar galactica usually goes like the devil is chasing it down the download port...

careful with comments like that oom rpm, the RIAA might sue you for admitting you downloaded stuff off of a P2P network :p
...or so I hear...:D

It's so sad, we have so been raped in South Africa when it comes to internet down to the point where I would dare say I'd rather get 3x dial up speed uncapped and spare R500 than lightning speed and being more broke than usual...~feeling sorry for SA internet users like me~

Oh well...Surfs up! Let's say the slow surfing is practice for when it gets faster...so that we don't fall off the board...:D

Sigh.. What gets me down is that the rest of the world is moving on while we try to catch up... I have 384K line. I wanted to play Hellgate london online but its minimum requirements online is 512K...Starcraft2 coming out minimum req is 1Meg per second, recommended 3 meg per second.

This playin around below 512K by south african providers is getting ridiculous. Video websites, virtual magazines, flash websites are more and more relying on faster connections. Even Iraq bombed up by america has fast unlimited 3 meg per sec for cheap!

And even if we get the 10meg per second connection this means your cap will be done by the time 7deLaan is over :)
TIA - This Is Africa, my version TIA-FUBAR

Dont go Lite

I've just got myself the NeoConnet Lite Unlimited and well, err it's slow. Ugly slow. Even simple browsing can leave you with that 'pulled tooth' feeling. But then again I was warned (by myself) but still fell for the 'unlimited' part of the equation. I'm trying to upgrade to the NeoConnect Prime Unlimited but Neotel seem more concerned about me paying R40 per month for my existing device than making an extra R530 per month off me. Go figure...

The device is prone to too many clouds in the sky, birds flying over my house etc etc, but works nonetheless.

Maybe you just try to rig up an external aerial first. Some other guy on the forum did it for R150 and it worked wonders.
