Neotel NeoConnect comparison

if Neotel offers unlimited data @ 2.4 MBS for R999 with a couple of free minutes and that little phone/usb thingy of theirs, is it unreasonable of me to expect unlimited data @ 2.4 MBS for R799 with a nice little wifi/router thingy instead?

I think for now it is. They still have to pay for international bandwidth - they have no say over pricing here. International BW prices are still very high and not much anyone (exept Telkom) can do about it...

I think we all need to wait until they release their ADSL offerings. If Telkom reduce prices and increase speeds any time soon then Neotel are going to be a long long way behind.

Some nice comparisons on the unlimited/high usage packages.

Just wish their lower end packages were a bit cheaper... for broke dudes like me :(

All in good time I guess :)

Those kind of comparisons are useful to see.

I still think I'm going to wait for an ethernet enabled device instead, because I do want to share the connection between pc's and don't want to have to use something like ICS

Great comparison. One wonders though if you can outright buy the equipment and so get a bit cheaper monthly cost?

If there is ever a product that will get this country to sit up and take notice its gonna be a 512kbs product thats unlimited for R499. hint hint nudge nudge :P

@hoover. I doubt neotel will be releasing a router type box anytime soon. From the reports i've heard they had to custom built the equipment. so expecting them to have a router setup soon...not gonna happen :(

Could Neotel's USB phone be shared using an IPCop, Smoothwall, or ClarkConnect box I wonder?

That would suit me just fine.

Indeed, and the lower-end comparison is kinda fake in that it compares Neoconnect Lite which peaks at 2 x dialup with a 384k ADSL line. Not really a comparison there.

Neotel wont be offering ADSL until Telkom has completed the local loop unbundling process, which is about 5 years away...
they will stick with Fibre and CDMA access as well as Fixed Wimax Installations 802.16d

Then they aren't going to compete with Telkom until then with these wireless offerings at least. Fibre could get veery interesting though...

i wonder when any of this will hit the streets of Cape Town. i'm having the usual Telkom installation woes at the moment - so i'm right for the 'picking', or should that be 'switching'.

It's closer to 3 times dialup speed and remember that it'll be on the same network that the prime people are using so you should almost always get your peak speeds.

RPM, dont they have access to SAT3 now? Surely they should be getting the same rates as Telkom then?
