Neotel network speed degradation update

According to "The Meaning of Liff" (or "The Deeper meaning of Liff"; I can not remember which book I got this term from), a book by Douglas Adams, the word "Ely" means the first tiniest inkling you get the moment you realise something has gone terribly wrong...

I just got an ely that I am going to have to go back to Telkom, and that I am now so addicted to my bandwidth that I will have to pay for the 1024 DSL Data Uncapped Express IS account... which means my internet will cost me 3x more than it is at the moment. Damn!

I hope it is a "wembely" (a "wembely" is when you realise your "ely" was actually wrong)
 
I am going with Axxess uncapped. The only downside is the cost because you still have to pay telkom for the 4 meg line.
 
It'd be slightly cheaper if you went for a Telkom 512 line with an Axxess 512 satellite account...

The exact setup I USED to have before moving to NeoTel.

Damn... I SOOOOOOOOO wanted NeoTel to be Better(tm). I was so happy to be away from Telkom...

But like the Mafia, the Bloods and the Crips... they suck you right back, don't they?
 
Ya, I also put all my hope and trust in Neotel. Sad really.

Anyways I am having my line upgraded to 4 mg, and I'm going to go for axxess 384k uncapped. some of those guys to 800 gig a month! If I do 30% of that I'll be happy.

Its going to cost me an extra R400 a month. but I think its worth it.

The cheapest option should be telkom wimax with Axxess uncapped. I think the difference between 512 and 4 meg is huge so it is worth the extra for me
 
On the axess uncapped, lets say I have a 4mb line but the 384kb uncapped account. If i am passed the 5gb threshold, do I still get the full 4mb line speed after 8pm or is it 192?

I understand it like this:

8pm to 8am and on weekends I should get 4mg.
8am to 8pm I will be on 192k, cos I will be permanently throttled.
but I have a prepaid account I use for the office. If I am ever at home during the day I will just switch to that.

You will get full speeds after hours regardless. The threshold is for peak hours. You can also expect to get close to max speeds all the time unlike with neotel. You also get 4 meg speeds on weekends:D

When neotel was working well I was getting over 200 gigs a month and it was honestly a struggle watching all that glorious 1080p content:p Imagine with a 4 meg line and Axxess uncapped. I guess I will have to buy another Hard Drive soon:rolleyes:
 
I just did some maths..

You know openwebs 1/2 month special 4mg uncapped? I forgot the price and I can't seem to find it now, but I think its about R650.

So with the openweb thing you get 360 hours of uncapped 4 meg. Thats R1.80 an hour
With the axxess thing you get 468 hours of uncapped 4 meg. Thats R2.13 an hour.

So the axxess thing is 33c more expensive per hour for 4 mg, but you do get 192k for the other 252 hours in the month. And there are more hours there than with openweb.

So openwebs option is cheaper per hour, but axxess is still the better option.
 
I have currently been on the line to 0800333636 for 20 minutes now...

"Devoho" told me they were going to solve my problem by swapping out my unit, so I stupidly asked, "When am I going to get the new unit?"

That was 12 minutes ago... I have been on mute ever since... not hold mind you... mute. So no music to tell me I am still important to them... no, I can just barely hear people in the background murmuring... I think... or those are just ghosts in the machine.


At 22 minutes, the call terminated....

Calling back...

Talking to Lesedi now... She has gone off to get more info (because it seems it is not on her PC)... she has not put me on hold or mute (at my request)... I am hear snippets of call centre chatter as the line intermittently sends sound down the wire...
 
Lol i had the same problem today when i was on the fone with them. The line would go absolutely dead and i would say "hello, anyone there?!" and then they would reply, "yes im here, the line tends to go silent every now n then"
 
Still on the line with Lesedi...

I think I have managed to convince her that a Unit swap out will not solve my problem.

She is convinced that there is no port shaping of any kind on NeoConnect Prime Unlimited accounts, but I think there is.

I am now trying to convince her that I am technically savvy enough (I knew that MCSE was good for something) to talk to the Second Tier Support guys.
 
I think I was "helped" by the same person. Like a friggen out of sync echo.
 
I had the exact same issues. One of the reps even hung up when he heard how bad it was.
