Neotel network speed degradation update

I think we should just get a Technical dude from neotel on here and the rep should be more active and tell us the truth?

LOL. jeanres u live in the clouds my man. This forum has NEVER been able to get neotel to do anything positive - even after RPM had a meeting with them. They admitted their faults and that was that!

Maybe if half the people here are pro-active then we will see a improvement....

You must be the neotel rep in disguise or something:rolleyes: We all pay them for a service and they don't deliver. What more do you want us to do? Take time off our busy schedules to volunteer at the call centre so that we can help other people in the same situation?

For some reason I just can't trust your motives here jeanres

@ gdiza, I have already cancelled and told them that I will not be paying for their device. Maybe all of us that are cancelling should get together and somehow help the next person that wants to but is too afraid of the costs

@VMS

Dude seriously stop complaining. You knew you where in a "good" signal area and not excelent.

I am in the same situation I get network spillage but I dont complain because I KNEW about it

BS Jeanres

Good indoor is supposed to be good WITHOUT an antennae.
With an Antennae he is supposed to be way over excellent.
Also he is saying that he get green LED's which is supposed to be an excellent signal, ie capable of teh max. But he is not getting any type of throughput, so supposedly a tower issue.

OK ...

How can we be pro-active.

I have logged calls. They have been closed with nothing done.

I have approached the Neotel Rep. The answers I get sound all very PR, but in technical terms they are empty. As well as there being other posts on the forum that contradict what he told me.

I have tried to approach their management , but they do not seem to care or want to talk.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I USED to have Excellent coverage without any antennae ( as is still shown on their coverage map ). One day my signal went down for 2 hours ( read change tower antennae direction) and my signal was non existant without any antennae (0bar to 1bar). Now they still maintain NO WORK was done. BS .......

I logged calls, went 2 months trying to get a site visit. EVENTUALLY managed to get someone out .. All he could confirm is that there is now minimal signal at my house. Even though even now I am shown as in a excellent indoor coverage area.

Mr Neotel's Answer is that I am in a spillage area and therefor should not have any coverage. BS , refer to your own coverage map.
His Q , Do I want to cancel ?... hell no, I want the service they have contracted for and I will continue aproaching every legal body I can with their lack of service. I will also continue bringing negative publicity onto Neotel as often as I can. I am not paying off a device just because they cant provide what they contracted for.

In one post I saw it was said that Neotels map was fairly conservative hence why it looks like they do not cover as much area as Telkom. To me it seems as if their coverage area shown is being pretty optimistic and in some cases downright fraudulant.

atm I get between a Green , Orange and Red service with intermittent D/C's, lag spikes and crap latency fairly regularly. yes I can use my cap, but in no way is it broadband. One second I will have 150Kbps , then next 3 Kbps.

The last call I had with the Rep was a few weeks back. He promised he would get back to me with info on what was being done to improve coverage in my area. But hey as always I have not heard from him since. Sound familiar ?

Greetings

Well, last night someone at NeoTel messed up... because I was getting a glorious 700-800Kb/s download rate on my torrents for 5 wondrous hours (from 2am to 7am).

Which tells me:

1) The BitTorrent community is not restricting my download speeds because I am a slow uploader.
2) My setup does allow for high-ish speeds (I have still to see the 1.5-2Meg download speeds I used to get).
3) It confirms my belief that the problem is squarely on NeoTel's side.

I have also noticed that my IP address is now changing every time I reconnect (I connect using one of three bat files, so I now run "ipconfig>>ip.txt" after each reconnection to see what it has changed to.

On the note of Bat files... I have now got a few bat files setup to check my connection to see if it is still active, and if not, restart it (which the windows task scheduler service runs every 30 minutes). Additionally, the script can also reboot the pc if it fails to connect 15 times in a row.

I also have a test script that tries to test the current bandwidth speed, but I am not convinced it is an accurate measure (basically, it uses wget to download a 1Meg file from a local server; wget logs the download and logs the download speed of the download; the script then parses the log file and extracts the download speed). The reason I do not think it is accurate is because when my download rate is high and my torrents are rolicking along, there is not much spare bandwidth for the wget (even though I use NetLimiter 2.1 and Grant wget 100% of the bandwidth) download... so it reports a slower speed than the line is actually capable of. Which is why I am not using it.

I wish I had a program that could read DU Meter (or my TCP/IP stack) and extract the current download rate that the PC is experiencing. In the mean time, I have DU Meter stopping my Dial up connection if it does not report that the PC has downloaded 75 Megs in an hour (21KB/s). The connection then gets redialed when my half hourly script checks my internet connection.

Anyway... day 4 of 7 working days has passed with no call from the techie... I am setting the over/under at 11 days... who wants to bet which it will be? I am betting it will be over...

Oh... and here are some examples of why I think I am being port-shaped:

for the last week my signal has been gone. Down from a DRC of 2.4mbps to a connection that intermittently goes from 0 t0 384kbps. Not sure wtf is going on?

I think it is now time for the whole military exersize: Legal advise/assistance, news papers, SABC, ICASA and a lot of Africa style mass action.

We need to find out how many people (and names, actions taken etc...) are battling to get service out of Neotel. We are the die-hard forum-ists who complain but I bet you there are thousands of people who are driven to tears with the same problems.

It is now clear that Neotel does not see any problems, do not call back, site visit, worry about quality of service or the needs of their clients. If they publically reported their problems and said that they were working on it then it would be one thing, but nobody is doing anything. Damn, even Disprin now had ads saying sorry they could not supply and I saw another one yesterday saying "Disprin is now back on the shelf". The only Neotel ads I see/hear are the ones where they claim wireless and high speed. The high speed is a lie.

I am now dead sure that their system actually works (well, the capability of the hardware) but that we are being throttled by an automatic 1/x function algorithm. It seems that some people are not throttled, hence many posts of people claiming constant speeds. This weekend I am swapping modems with a friend who claims constant speeds (he is about 4 km away from me). If my system suddenly works perfectly, at his place, then I will have to rethink my theory (and also if his is working worse at my location-with antenna) but then it still leaves the signal and towers as the problem.

BTW, Neotel rep, I have PM-ed you my contact details. What happened? Do you work for Neotel, contracted or doing it for the love of the matter? Do you have any actual contacts at Neotel? Do you have any real "pull" at Neotel? Are you like Neotel (ignoring everybody) or are you on our side and your own company is ignoring you? That last part would be really funny and sad at the same time. Do you believe that the people complaining are actually lying? Or maybe you believe us but deep down you know that you cannot really help us as the system is flawed? Your lack of dialog has said books full about what you really feel.

And what about the usage/billing feature? That should be so damn easy. A little program that counts data (in and out) on an account and sent to a SQL database which is then made visible to password control login on a web page. Do you want me to help you guys? We are not talking rocket science. There are numerous developers that will be able to do that for you way before the end of the month without really understanding how your system works. That leaves the question is Neotel have actual programmers??? If not then how can you run a company without solution developers?

On my 3G account I get SMSs. How about an email, even after the fact, to say that e.g."We experienced problems at tower P472 from 9am to 11am"? Neotel, you guys must give Hetzner a call and ask them how things are done. Seriously!!! They keep me so up to date that it sometimes gets a bit anoying, but the information is useful. If I log a call they actually call me back.

Enough bitching and moaning. I think these threads must now move to national exposure.

I just foned the call centre - they reckon in 1 week my tower has become congested (mind u after 1 year of it working fine) and that there is nothing I can do. I asked them if they plan on resolving it, they said probably but cannot give me a time. I asked if I cancel if there are any termination fees involved - they said no . So i have now cancelled my neotel. Finally! Im going with ADSL now!! YAY!
