Why ban it? I'm interested in seeing what these providers will offer in future, my problem comes when they repeatedly fail to deliver and we get fresh promises from known liars. There should be some page called something like "IBIWISI" that lists each provider and the goals/date they set. Then everytime they miss it, it can get a line through it and the new date shown. That way you can judge a provider on how accurate it is at keeping it's forecasts rather than the gut feeling that they're lying as usual.
 
About a month ago I had excellent coverage..I checked again yesterday and I am now on "fair" and they telling me I would need to have an external antenna thingy..

why expand to other cities when Joburg still got vast areas with now coverage. I have got stuff to upload, sites to test and was kinda hoping Neotel would work out..:(
 
Im still bewildered by Neotel....firstly, this was supposed to be a fixed line but they opt to shortcut tradition and go wireless "fixed" line. Secondly, they provide this wireless data service with seemingly erratic speeds (just following the forums makes interesting reading). One wonders where all their technology is going. I mean other providers started provisioning their data services at a point and have mananged to increase their offering through time. From what I understand, Neotels offering seems to have maxed out and even that is not very hot in comparision to other service providers.

Telkom has done that to me, not once... but five times since January! :mad:
 
I went to the Neotel website in mid 2008... and filled out the "contact me" form. At that stage the estimate was three months for coverage. It is now 9 months later and still nothing in sight.

I wonder how neotel are progressing with the unbundeling of the local loop. probably 0% in 2 years. The more I read about them the more I am in amazed that they are still in existence.

"Glad" to hear it - they have done it to me more times than I can count - at least 20 times this year.
The one time they called to tell me it was working, and the line was losing sync while they were telling me it was fixed.....

We had to get satellite connectivity because the links in Kenya is so unstable (latency between 300ms and 10000ms on the same connection). I don't think Kenya is a good example for your point. Things might change with their project to connect them to Seacom, but the problem is much the same as ours, stolen cables.

One saga, out of many.....

I call neotel to get their New data service as I have neotel lite, which is a service that on a good day reminds you of the surfing speeds of Dial up on a 14k modem of yesteryear....

So I decide to get the data service, so at least I can have my line separate so I don't disconnect and freeze every time someone calls, and more than 1 pc on at a time - like leap back to the 21st century.

So cool, I get a call which I can hardly hear,cause neotel calls tend to break up, but it was the dude from the call centre calling to say everything is approved, and they will deliver in the next few days, sweet I'm thinking.

Kaboom, 7pmthat night,everything stops working,no line, no internet all dead. I eventually get hold of the call centre,after being dropped 3 times,and it turns out the messed up my request.

So instead of a data service, they changed me to prime, cancelled my lite and line and so I have nothing working.
So I go WTF,I didnt order prime, I wanted the data service and to keep the lite and tel number I have.

Anyhow this dragged on, so I will spare you the boring details,but it took3 days to get my lite service reconnected and by the end of that I told them to shove the Data package.

Amazing the similarity in the sounds coming from Neotel leaders to the sounds coming from ANC leaders - plenty promises, poor delivery. Both seem to easily find a scape goat onto whom they can blame their lack of ability as well.

Nice idea. But maybe keep it 3rd party. What I mean is:

Yes, I don't like all these hot air stories published on MyBB, but it's what's happening out there and this is my one-stop telecom news provider. So they should keep on with it.

If MyBB is seen to be anti telecom companies, maybe they won't get inside info and some scoops.

So while Im not saying that MyBB should start kissing a*se, they shouldn't follow what some people are saying on here and ban stories from certain companies. If they don't want to point out where said companies have failed, perhaps someone can post it on their site, etc. as in the good idea that km2 suggested. Nice to keep a tally and not MyBB put on the spot. Then again maybe it won't work. ;)
 
No, don't ever think of banning stories from telecoms companies, but please do add user opinions and the actual "truth" in the story as well.

and what will a good piece of journalism be without a section for "burning questions" such as...

1. Why is it sooooo difficult for neotel to provide concrete dates for roll outs.
2. Why is it sooooo difficult for neotel to keep to their "concrete" dates
3. Why is it sooooo difficult for neotel to make their call centre lines clear (so their potential client won't think that's the quality they will get)
4. Why is it sooooo difficult for neotel to deliver services as they have promised with a 6x reduction on prices when they gained access to SAT3
5. Why is it sooooo ...........

Never. Too narrowband international links to use this one to full or properly. Too expensive to lay. Everyone wants it because it is not copper.
So, fibre wont be used here as FTTH... Maybe for businesses only, FTTB.

Correct me if I'm wrong.
 
with neotel anything to do with "corporate client" is always first, so you're definitely right. :p

as with to the home????? wonderful idea, we'll put it in the pipelines and implement it somewhere towards the end of the century.
