Neotel Prime - Durban Central

Hello all :)

So I'm making the jump and I'm very interested in the uncapped package. I've called Neotel and checked the website and there's an 'excellent' signal coverage and I'm ready to sign up.

Can someone please give me their experience on the download speeds on the prime package. Is the speeds close to the 2mb as advertised? Or, as according to the call centre, 300-700kps?

I've noticed, while searching the forum, that the max of 180KB has been achieved. Can I expect at least a 1mb download speed in Durban Central?

Oh my, please don't tell me that there's no Neotel subscribers in Durban :eek:

Well I've gotten them now, The Prime Uncapped. So far, I'm impressed. The Neotel guy said I should use DAP(Download Accelerator Plus) and I was getting download speeds of over 200kbps with an average of about 130/140ish which is awesome. I downloaded a 70mb file in about 6 mins roughly.

I also did do some Online Game testing with Guild Wars. I was getting a ping on a Euro server of about 300-550ms ping, which isn't awesome but still playable, for me atleast.

I some how think that Youtube, Metacafe etc have been blocked because I can't access them. I got on YT for about 2 mins then couldn't anymore. Or MetaCafe.

Overall I'm impressed. It's not as good as my 4mb line but pretty darn close, my pings are even high for Guild Wars on my 4mb, roughly the same, never dropping below 300, never going over 600.

Thanks mate for replying, think you meant KB instead of kbps?
 
@Cryptic- I'm getting about 1-1.5mbs download and 100-230kBps upload(with DAP).

@Stoke- Sorry man I don't have BF2.

Flippen hell man :D, well done. The fastest on iBurst with IDM is 1.2mb (at best). Damn, looks like me is getting Prime uncapped soon :D.

@Stoke- Don't have that either. :/ I can try Far Cry 2 if that helps? I don't really play online much other than GW's and Runescape.

@Cryp- Yeah 1mb aint too bad, downloads at 100-230kBps isn't bad either, I struggled to get that with my 4mb line. Just remember, you might not get the same speeds as me, depends on your area. :P I'm thinking about getting a bigger antenna, bigger the better. :P

Thanks Tsugaru, to be honest I'd be happy with 1mb, if I get more - bonus man :D. I'm used to the 1mb speed from iBurst, the uncapped feature is what I'm after. iBurst is heavily capped and to purchase b/w is another expensive issue :(
 
Yeah, it's great for the money. :) The Neotel techie said that IDM conflicts with their software and DAP works best, I've tried downloading things without DAP and DAP really increases performance, I get about 30-55kBps without it.

Loving Uncapped. :P
