Neotel Prime Speed Report

seems like the fastest DL was 422 :/

i'd much rather stay with WebAfrica, great customer support, 4mb adsl line (two accounts, one shaped and one unshaped) average download speed between 300-500 kb/s (obv depends on the server being downloaded from)... oh yes .. and they have no problem with "coverage" :P

If it was averaging at 700kbps I wouldn't be complaining. My avg is at about 300kbps.

And even after that, I wouldn't be complaining that much if if I could play games. The (improved) latency is still a nightmare with all games.

Finally... a auto connect feature would've been in order. Why they haven't got that in their software is mindboggling, since it disconnects quite often.

From what I've seen the performance has just gotten slower. Where are they going to go "Hey, we need to start doing something"? To me it's not a good sign, but I'm hoping...

I'm curious, mainly because i'm off to Neotel as of next week (currently with iBurst)....

Since you're on the Unlimited package,is your slowdown in speed in any way related to the amount of data you downloaded ? in other words it was fast in the beginning until you downloaded XX amount in a certain period of time ?

Would they be trying to slow you down in any way ? (In your personal opinion of course :)
 
hhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaa,what a bunch of crap,did you really think that neotel will actually give you a better deal,welcome to reality.all that happens is sombody else gets you hard earned money,service as usual.ask for a atm link i bet the price will be the same or very close to telkom.

be that as it may, lol :P im happy with my current connection .. except that every time the phone rings we get disconnected from the net for a second or two (long enough to get disconnected from World of Warcraft) :/
 
damn...

you guys are complaining for nothing..... atleast your copper can't stolen & you have not tried Vodacom's 3Grrrr.. "HSDPA" in my area i get worse speeds then you and i have full signal! Plus LOS to the base station..........

How the Heck did you get those speeds?:eek:
I'm shocked cause others have been getting pretty low, do you experience any inconsistency?

Like I told the other Neotel users, I think it is because their base station is congested(plenty users in the CBD areas). I think I am the only one on Neotel base station, where I live..

I will be honest at first I did experience so many problems..
 
Took delivery of the Prime unlimited service yesterday and thus far I am super disappointed with the speed:( I haven't signed the contract yet and am actually considering returning the product. It actually says in bold on the first page of the contract that I should expect average speeds of between 300 and 700 kbps which makes a mockery of the claimed 2.4 mbps. "These speeds are considered adequate" :sick:

Anyway, after running the speed test 3 times this is the best speeds I reached:
Download speed: 511 kbps
Upload speed: 62 kbps

I really wanted to like this service but it disconnects more often than sentech:mad:
 
well... I'll eagerly wait for their Ethernet device, if comments on their speed and stability don't improve i'll stick to DSL until it improves...
 
The good thing is you can actually return the device within 7days..So if you are not thrilled send it back. NO CHARGE AT ALL!!!! A friend of mine has actually done that…:mad:

Thank you for the info but I just wish companies could live up to their word. I was on sentech 256 classic and I could easily get 90% of the claimed speed all day and on neotel I'm getting just over 20% of the claimed speed:(. Even at night so I'm guessing it's not contention issues. I have 4 bars signal so that's not it either. Seems like he speed is being throttled from neotel's side. I don't want to be slagging off a company on the net but hopefully they can read posts like these and learn to deliver a decent service?

Well 256kb isn't that hard to achieve. Neotel never claimed they would achieve speeds of 2.4mbps, it's just the max for the technology. They claimed around 700kbps iirc. EDIT: I see you knew this already, well unfortunately that's all they can do with their current CDMA technology it looks like. :(

I wouldn't trust 4 bars of signal as an indication that signal can't be the problem on any device. You could still have a poor connection with interference or bad packet loss. I'm not sure how reliable the Neotel device is though.

Hehe sounds like my Sentech days....its a pity there is no fixed line option I HATE WIRELESS, unstable,slow and always given to customers in a beta type mode during launch!! That's one thing I learned the hard way with sentech and iburst. Unfortunately we will be stuck with telkom as the only fixed line provider until local loop unbundling is complete and neotel can piggyback on telkom residential infrastructure. Then I might be interested again.
 
So just got Neotel.

Here's my Test Results.
Coverage: Excellent
Package: Prime 10Gig
Download Speed: 150 kbps (18.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 67 kbps (8.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

I'm now going to play around and see what other results I get.
