i think a a usenet account from the us would be best as neotel does not use IS or Saix

arrgghh :(:( with so many cables apparently being laid, with so many competitor's lining up, with so many ISP's...no-one can ever get a straight answer anymore from anyone. Look at the first post in this thread..try to answer it !

And I am still paying the same high price for my 384 kb/s line. For me nothing has changed...

sooooon broadband should drop with 2010 coming

I think that it could go either way. The telcos might try to make more money by jacking prices up. If you have Euros or Dollars then it won't be so bad and the tourists will pay because they will want the connection. Or things could become cheaper. Only time will tell...

but it should be cheaper as every1 from around the world will be coming here but the thing is will telkom n the others have enough capacity for every1?

Given the past behaviour of our Telco's and the excuses flowing from our SNO already, my guess is the prices will only go one way and thats up.

As of right now, I am completely disillusioned with Neotel. They have not wowed me in any way shape or form, and since they're already coming with excuses for things I am not expecting anything other than business as usual in the Telecoms sector of this country.

I think the giving themselves a decent margin. So when telkom drop their prices, they will still have some room to play, while still making a profit.

My feeling is the next year will be a good one.

Don't care for their profit margin...

Next year will be a good one for them, with Seacom landing anyway.

Something that I just pondered now concerning Seacom.

Will it only be Neotel that would have access to the landing station in KZN?
If so - I don't feel we're gonna have true competition.
I would like to see VC, perhaps MWEB, ceratinly IS having access to it and jostling the pricing structure in order to compete and lure clients - WITHOUT CONTRACTS!

EDIT: Found this rather disturbing SEACOM thread and article posted by ShaunSA

Listen people.

The mere fact that neotel is here is amazing, nevermind their uncapped service.

If they werent here, Telkom has no competition.

In a few months the price wars will start, as they fight for broadband dominance...which will be interesting - the one who doesn't lower prices, will lose more and more customers every day.

Neotel will get better and better as time goes on, just like any company must grow.

So, to sum up: Even if the services are kinda the same, and priced the same, it doesn't matter - because now there is some competition introduced!

I'm sure telkom is already trying to cope with MTN and vodacom's HSDPA services....

Good luck Neotel, cant wait for your prime uncapped service!!

i agree , but some people just want to say no they not good we want this we want that , but the fact is neotel is trying to help and they do need a profit , every company does and just for the people who will say that uk etc are cheaper , they were not stuck to 1 provider as we where , now things are changing

hmmm so they will fight a price war eh? what like IS?? ROFLMAO

LOL - so you think melkhom is gonna still charge high prices for their service if Neotel brings theirs down as more people start moving over?

If you don't agree that SA has lately been getting some competition to Telkom you clearly walk around with sunglasses at nite.

And they are only starting.

If there wasn't any competition we wouldnt be having this discussion.

Ahem....

Even if the offerings don’t suit you, it does bring pricing pressure into the market and may force other providers to respond. I just hope they expand their coverage quickly and provide great service as this will ensure pressure on providers like Telkom & iBurst…

Die baas het ook so gese!

Since Telkom simply refuses to install a telephone line for me (been waiting 4 months), I've decided to look into Neotel. From what I gather, the contract is there because the CDMA device is pretty expensive. The sales rep explained to me that, if you cancel the contract, you will still be liable for R80 per month for the device. So, R80 of the monthly fee of R599 goes to the device. (80*24 = R1920)

Still don't know what I should do

Well, that will depend on what you want to use it for and what your browsing habits are. If you don't mind waiting for things to download, and tend to download quite a lot then this is definitely well worth it.
