Neotel Prime Uncapped?

Well, that will depend on what you want to use it for and what your browsing habits are. If you don't mind waiting for things to download, and tend to download quite a lot then this is definitely well worth it.

The specs of NC Prime suite me fine. What worries me is that, a few months from now, Neotel may start offering fixed line DSL services - which may be cheaper. To get that, I'd have to cancel my NC Prime (at a penalty of R80 for each month of the contract left). Or should I wait for Neotel's Wimax??

The question is not whether I should go Neotel or not - rather when should I go Neotel.

Wimax may be a good option worth waiting for - a guy I know is on Telscum Wimax and gets good coverage and he has no complaints about it.
He plays alot of America's Army with pings that don't get him killed :p

Now this is the problem that we're faced with...
You're still happy to pay an upgrade fee!?
This goes back to what TB has said, we shouldn't sit by idly and let SA companies throw rubbish at us and then when its time for new rubbish, have to pay for it again.
Small? Could well mean large in someone else's vocabulary.
Their reps would do better to shut up, then keep feeding us with the straws they're grabbing at!

South Africa is always badly Internet and always mention about "out of bundle" not unlimited and nothing is new because South Africa is South Africa. :-(

Well, if you take into account how long it has taken Neotel to come so far that they have their first offerings on the table, I think it will take quite some time before they have DSL services available to consumers. Wimax might be worth waiting for though... if you can wait that long.

Do they have coverage for their current services in your area? Perhaps try to find out from them when their Wimax and DSL services will be available to you and then decide based on that.

I called Neotel and this is what I was told.

If you are online and your phone rings it automatically pauses your internet connection. Lol what if you are in the middle of a game? Then apparently it unpauses once you place your receiver back on the base and you go back to where you were . lmao .. if you're fighting a boss you will go back to your dead character :) ... great service they are offering .... :D

Well that is an unacceptable solution in my opinion, and hearkens back to the bad old days of dial up.

I know people will attack me for being negative and whatever. Where I am coming from is that if we accept these poor and expensive product offerings from our "saviour" what are the chances of them giving us better products when they know we will accept rubbish?

Email from Neotel...

At the moment you cannot use internet while you are in a call, the page which you will be browsing at will be in a

dormant stage then you will continue with the session when you end the call but in the near future it will be implemented.

My reply...

When you do implement it (using internet and the telephone simultaneously on NeoConnect), will I need to upgrade the device/pay any extra costs? Or will it just work?

Their reply...

The details pertaining your specific enquiry have not been finalised as yet, as soon as the information is finalised we will contact you. We have noted your query and saved your details on our database.

Toxic - I have been reading this entire thread and agree with EVERY single point you have made.

Why can't they simply "unbudle" all the add-on bull**** and just give us what we want at a reasonable price? We (South Africans) have taken too much of this crap from too many companies for too long. High prices and bad service - is this the SA way?

My brother-in-law and his wife live in London - now listen to this... His service provider (for internet connectivity, telephone, satalite TV, etc. - all in one) is Sky. For 16 pounds a month, he gets: A 20MB connection with NO cap - they have not heard of caps over there no matter who you are with, a landline telephone with unlimited free calls anywhere in London and greater London area and very cheap calls outside and overseas, and 700 channels of Sky Satalite TV. All this for 16 Pounds a month? We must be doing something wrong here. And I know what it is - for too long, we have just accepted monopolies with ridiculous prices and crap service.

We need to stand up and make our voices heard. I will not make any change to Neotel until they offer me a service at the price I am looking for. If they could could give me a 1MB connection, with at least 50GB data (preferably uncapped though), for about R 300.00 a month, I'll change over in a flash, but until then - bugger it.

Sounds like a nice DoS attack for online games. I'll just phone you and your game will die! It will have to be from my cell phone otherewise my game will die as well! I mean what kind of offering is that!

Voice and data run on different channels according to Neotel, but not seperated on the terminal (Your Neotel phone). I guess if you want to resolve the problem you need to get a new device......

I have another question - will this Neotel device (phone) work with my house's linked alarm and armed response?

hmm, i wonder if you can disable incoming calls. Would be the ultimate irritant to be cold called by the big four to congratulate you on being preselected for a special screening to get a credit card :/ Whilst playing ure favourite games online...
