So i've had Neotel for about 4 months now, and it was working perfectly for me..

Up until recently that is. For some reason every single time I try to download a file from rapidshare.com my internet just stops working.
Will not download at all, not even 0.000001kb/s.
And as soon as I start downloading something from rapidshare.com everything else internet wise just stops working!

It's as though they are blocking me from using rapidshare at all..

Anyway to fix this? Solutions? Remedies?

/^5 for your recommendations :(

Sorry for repost... damn connection!

Send me a PM with details Killove so I can see what happens when I try get to the file.

if it's true, then bad news for neotel - they won't have many customers if they force their rules onto their clients like that.

a user should be able to do as he pleases, without the isp telling them where they can and cannot go - the customer IS paying for it you know...

Let's not jump the gun here... let's do some testing first and then we can do yelling if we need to.

I didn't jump any guns, I just said "IF"

it is possible though - eyeburst is throtteling p2p like a twinkie factory filling the cream in.

happened to me on uninet, that's why i canceled, now using telkom adsl(4mb,but only getting about half), as for for rapidshare everything is okay, downloads are fast

apparently, a LOT of people uses iBurst, and if you look at the rest of the options, we're all idiots really....

but choosing where I can and cannot spend the bandwidth that I paid for, is a definate no-no.

luckily, I don't have THAT problem. I have many other problems though, lol....

I won't cancel my account with Neotel just because I can't get a file off rapidshare, everything I would want is on News servers anyway.

for now. if they decide it's ACCEPTABLE to totally kill RS downloads, whats stopping them from doing it to your beloved news server protocols?

EDIT: Google for "tron guy" - he's weird but you could learn something from him. I promise!

The internet shouldn't be this way.

I've been keeping quite the last week, however from the amount of BS I have been getting lately.

Only one conclusion, make any excuse to keep the customer quite, but hopefully he will just go away and forget about it.

Just tried phoning Neotel, they don't have customer care after 5pm, I forgot the internet shuts down at around that time.

I've tested it numerous times, and it's only when I try get something off rapidshare that my connection bombs out.

Killove's serial killer tendencies have raised

Normal [ --------------------|----- ] Serial Killer

Still less than when I was on iBurst though.

Hi Killove:

Neotel does not control the use of websites or file sharing applications / communities. You are free to download from any site you choose including RapidShare. The rate @ which the information is streamed at from these servers cannot be guaranteed, since they are beyond the control of the service provider.
Contention ratios do come into play if the file you are requesting is generating more traffic than the server / stream is dimensioned for.

@ JMRHowes,

Neotel has actually exceeded the norm as to what any other service provider is prepared to do for your particular matter. In addition, your query / complaint has not been closed and is being addressed as part of the planned maintenance as mentioned in the Update thread. No excuses were made and as mentioned previously, we do not silence our customers and invited feedback (negative / positive) in order to fix any shortfalls. This process is welcome in order to provide the best possible experience.

@ NEOTEL Rep,

Why then did you PM me and say I need to point my antenna at the nearest base station today, as you know Alfred has come with a Antenna etc etc because I responded to you saying that my signal has jumped since last night from 1 to 2 bars in a excellent area.

2ndly, Had not connection when I got home,

Called the call centre twice... 1 was please leave a voice message

The other was ok , please hold, and then "can I have a ticket number" and that was the hang up call.

As stated in the PM, you will receive a call from the Head of Customer Services tomorrow.

One thing I've noticed with my Neotel connection this month is when I try and download certain files and they get stuck, thats it, forget trying to download them at all. I've been trying to download the latest Moblin iso (240Mb) - it hangs at a certain point and will not continue.

I suspected their site, until I downloaded the packages to build on my machine. One of the packages that refuses to download with Neotel works fine on my office PC (Axxess).

Examples of packages I cannot download:

http://repo.moblin.org/moblin/relea...rch/python-gdata-1.2.4-1.1.moblin2.noarch.rpm

and another

http://repo.moblin.org/moblin/relea...ive-texmf-fonts-2007-23.27.moblin2.noarch.rpm

(I've reset my modem ... blah ... blah ... blah)

PS: My IP is "inet addr:41.174.6.154" while trying to do this

I guess there is a major proxy issue that somebody has to fix. Would not surprise me if this is related to the overcharge of data usuage (I too have been a victim of this) :(

@ Neotel:

Why is it RapidShare used to work perfectly, and now won't work at all?
By Occrams Razor (Thanks myBB), either rapidshare is having a problem with their network, or neotel.. Which do you think is more likely?

And then, on that small chance that it is RapidShare with the problem, why is it whenever I try download something from there, my entire internet bombs out, and I have to reconnect, even if I stop the download?

It really looks as though neotel is throttling my use there somehow.
Please can you look into this for me Neotel? and PM me?

My IP: 41.174.5.27

My rapidshare downloads are despicable... I paid a huge amount for a premium account on there. Now It quite literally doesn't work. It goes waaaay slow and gets to 98.7% and dies. I use a dl manager and it still dies. The only thing I really use my internet for is streaming videos (in2streams.com), rapidshare, and agasa ftp :/

Not working great so far, but hopefully this will all be fixed soon as they fix up all the base stations.

is this the service that we seem to be getting? well maybe thats why they dont have alot of Clients just yet!!!! and if they carry on like this they wont have alot of customers in the future either..... and when the seacom lands well we will see if telkom drops there prices and increase there service turnaround times then there will be trouble. they are going to be stuck. cos the adsl from telkom is way faster than that of neotel or IBURST, but both companies service are up to rubish anyway!!!!
