Neotel uncapped LTE tested

Forgive me, but seeing the abbreviation LTE,
one would expect speeds of at least 10 - 20Mbps, why would they offer a 2Mbps and 5Mbps? :wtf:

i also thought LTE would be much faster, esp upload too... and cheaper? (altough it does carry the 'uncapped' description, whatever Neotel's definition of that is)
maybe its throttled to specific level, based on subscription.?

Because these are uncapped packages.

I'm sure the capped packages will be full speed.

What service did you guys test - 6 Mbps or 10 Mbps? It wasn't clear from the article.

Must say, wish Neotel could have provided symmetrical services. That would have been great and since they're not using the full potential bandwidth of LTE they might as well have gone with the same upload speeds...

LTE isnt symmetrical, the UL uses a slightly different transmission scheme, lower modulation scheme and no MIMO.

Pointless test.

Low coverage and wait till more people adopt the service around that office, GL with that then...

I want to know if there will be a capped LTE package. If they can offer 10GB p/m for a reasonable price then I will jump at it.

I really don’t know why so many people complain about Neotel’s broadband solutions. When it comes to B2B solutions in regard with broadband it is superb when compared to competitors, they surely hit it spot-on, but this depends on their location in which they deliver services. Would not say the same about their telecommunication solutions…

I hear you, but LTE is also not limited to 2, 6 and 10 Mbps. I was hoping that if they "cap" the theoretical download speeds of say 50 Mbps down to 6, they can cap upload speeds proportionally higher and essentially make it symmetrical. But yeah, wishful thinking.

This used to be the case in the uncapped MTN products where, when you reached a certain threshold (3GB if I remember correctly), you were capped in speed (256 kbits/s) but since the bigger HSPA pipe was still there, you at least reached 256 kbits all the time.

Any idea if this will be offered on a month-to-month basis instead a ridiculous contract?

Would you rather have unlimited petrol or only a couple litres?

If you drive a Ferrari, you should be able to afford topping up the tank when you need to,
The whole purpose of LTE is to offer higher speeds...

Actually, especially in the South African context, the whole point of LTE is to provide a cost-effective alternative to fixed-line internet connections. LTE provides much lower latency than 3G and makes much more efficient use of spectrum at whatever speed it happens to be running at.

Ok, sow how does on get the Neofail coverage map?

On their Website: Check Coverage (order Now)....

So I click. HUH - postpaid / prepaid: Ok I will bite. Postpaid

Now they want me to give alot of private data (I just want a ZOOMABLE google Map please)...

Also: not very friendly:

"Please ensure RICA documents are ready before placing any order. For RICA details kindly refer Home/Small Office Section."

HUH (ok WTF!)

So Finally after almost "giving blood" - OK not so dramatic I get the info I want.

Covered for LTE ... Mn...

Voice Services - Covered
Mobile Data Services - Covered
High Speed Internet Services - Not Covered (this is Fibre I suppose) :(
Voice And Basic Internet Services - Covered
Voice And High Speed Internet Services - Not Covered
NeoBroadBand WIMAX - Not Covered
NeoBroadBand LTE - Covered
NeoBroadBand Ubiquity - Not Covered - So cannot find ANY info on this service??

Even their site search is very helpful: Search Ubiquity (a service they say I cannot have):

"There are no results for your query. Please refine your search and try again."

Lets see how this turns out (and if Vodacom buys them).

OUCH
