Neotel upgrading some users to WiMax?

No users are selcted for a WiMax trial.
We don't offer trials on WiMax.

I called into Accounts Support and it appears only Enterprise Customers and not "unlimited package users and those on the Flex 15G packages" customers will be the one's upgraded to WiMax.

Can you please confirm this Hugo ?
I would really dislike for myself and many others to get their hopes up when that is not the case.

And us poor 5GB NeoFlex guys? Will be a choice for us? Even at a slightly higher cost?

Thanks again Hugo
How can the high end package users, the Flex 15G users and the unlimited users go about getting the WiMax service at no additional cost ?

Do we need to send you an email ? If so mine is on the way.

Received yours already Kasbah.

Will be sending you all the info over the weekend as well. Could you possibly send me your GPS Co-ordinates of the location where you going to use it by Monday if possible.

Thanks Kasbah

Hugo, please can you send me a PM. This thing hasn't worked the whole of this month or last month. Can I get some details on the WiMax thing?

Which weekend ? Two weekends have now passed.

Sucky Service....Come one!!

Now isn't this the type of service you would expect from a country that is hosting a WORLD CUP!! Come one, you would at least expect the Neotel Rep to get back to consumers when he said he would...

Anyways, I would love to try the WiMax solution opposed to the current CDMA modem that just does not work, even with an antenna pointing straight at the tower (maybe I am pointing this to the wrong tower....NOT!! :D )

Please count me in to trail this solution, I am in the Greenstone area on a current Neotel Prime Uncapped solution, have been for almost the past 2 years....

Ok, I have also waited for 2 weeks, no response from Neotel re the WiMax, just joined WebAfrica and signed up for their Titan 3 package which includes 50GB of data at up to 10mbps and bandwidth top-ups at R10/gig. All that's left to do now is cancel Neotel!

Right, just phoned and terminated my contract, needed to send a termination email to [email protected] stating the reasons for terminating. Looking really forward to my "Titan 3 Complete" package from WebAfrica (R799 per month for 50GB and 4MB(Up to 10MB) ADSL line) compared to Neotel (R999 for uncapped but slow, unreliable line).

How much did you have to pay for your "device fee" to Neotel when you cancelled?

I had to give a months notice(till end of May), he calculated the outstanding device fee as R40 * (no of outstanding months) = R480, I was told I could keep the device and sell it if I like. I pay by debit order, so the call centre guy suggested I put a stop order on the payment. Apparently a "termination agent" will phone me on the day of actual cancellation - "Neotel Terminators" - I like the sound of that :-)

R40 hey - what device was that? I have a NeoFlex router and I think that's R100pm...

I have a Neotel Prime Uncapped account, I also thought the fee was R100 a month, but it is not the first time a Neotel call centre agent has given incorrect information

This is what Neotel emailed me, when I asked if\when I can get the WiMax option:

Good Day
Thank you for your enquiry dated the 22nd of April, 2010.

The NeoFlex data option does come with WiMax service standard. This is the only package that we offer that comes with WiMax services.

Yes the coverage for the NeoFlex is the same with the coverage for the WiMax service.

For any further enquiries please do feel free to contact us by e-mail or by giving us a call on 0800333636.

Thank you for your interest in Neotel and I trust this information was of some assistance.

Kind Regards

Evening All.

I would just like to clarify the following:
The information provided and relayed by the call centre agent is entirely incorrect and untrue.

There is no link between the 2 technologies, Wimax and CDMA.
They each use a different infrastructure and therefore carry no definitive similarity between them excepting for the “wireless” portion.
Coverage is not interlinked and neither is the equipment used to access the 2 networks the same either.

Neoflex is part of the CDMA network, WiMax is a self standing network infrastructure network.

Please feel free to drop me a mail ([email protected]) if you wish to enquire more about these networks.

Thanks

Hugo
