Neotel upgrading some users to WiMax?

Out of curiousity, what's the average turn around time for a wimax SS to become active? It's been 8 days since the wimax installation and the techies said it should have gone live Monday (Friday now).

Should I phone customer support and bug them to activate it or what? Can anyone give me a contact number for neotel wimax installations customer support or the like?

Thanks!

Public IPs|Last Mile|Peak Download Speed|Peak Upload Speed|Cost
5|WiMax|1Mbps|768Kbps|R1299

5|WiMax|5Mbps|2Mbps|R2299
5|WiMax|8Mbps|3Mbps|R4499

What's going to happen to the 'happy' users like me? I don't want to pay R300 more for a slower product.

Hey,

Sorry this is a newbie question :)

I have received all my IP address details etc.

I have been connected to the base station and the CPE shows a Wimax address of 172.27.192.31

My question is how exactly do I now connect to the internet using a Broadband Router using all the details they have now provided me?

Hi guys

I had my antenna installed 2 weeks ago but there was problems with the IP address. So I've been dealing with Muzi Mdakane about sorting it out. Turns out he gave me an incorrect IP, but today he gave me the correct one and I am pleased to say I'm connected!

Getting 2.10Mb/s download and 2.02 Mb/s upload. (Neotel's speedtest)

To answer darylnunn123 question, you need a PPPoE router (i.e. one that doesn't switch for DSL and just accepts incoming network traffic through a lan cable). Your router (if it is PPPoE) should be able to be configured with the static Ip and then all connections (both lan cable and wireless, if the router supports it) will work as long as you set up your pc's to search for IP automatically. This is because the router now acts as your static IP interface.

I'm hopefully getting a netgear router today, preferrably with a USB port so I can share my media drive directly through the network. Really looking forward to connecting my PS3 and jamming MAG!!

so to respond to this guy:

Shame dude, I've now taken your spot as Neotel's only happy customer :)
And the best part is Muzi confirmed the service is uncapped!! Up to 35GB and then it's shaped, but I definitely won't be reaching that barrier.

Got my Wimax up and running. Thanks to Silversid and Hein_JHB. Using a Netgear Broadband router.

Very happy with the speeds...Great job Tiyani from Neotel.

Get 2.2 Mb/s download and just over 2 Mb/s upload (Neotel Speedtest)

Are u guys still getting free upgrades to wimax from your flex packages? Still paying your original flex prices?

Hmmm... When I get back to SA I'm gonna call Neotel and ask them to upgrade my NeoFlex to unlimited WiFi. If, for whatever reason, they can't, then I'm gonna cancel...

Silversid or anyone who got their wimax connection sorted out, do you perhaps have contact details for the people that sorted out your problems @ neotel?
<- going on week 3 of waiting for neotel to just enter a mac address into a base station (after an email and 4 calls - and no response back from them)

Hey, I spoke to Hugo and he referred me to Muzi Mdakane ([email protected]). He really helped get everything up and running, particularly because I could only supervise installers over weekends. Hope I don't get blasted for putting his details on here!

Thats the question i wanna know. i phoned neotel and they said it would cost me 300 a month extra but sometime ago some1 said they will upgrade it for free

Yeah some clarification would be great, I am very keen to go to Wimax, however I get quoted the business Wimax amounts:

Public IPs|Last Mile|Peak Download Speed|Peak Upload Speed|Cost
5|WiMax|1Mbps|768Kbps|R1299
5|WiMax|2Mbps|1.6Mbps|R1699
5|WiMax|5Mbps|2Mbps|R2299
5|WiMax|8Mbps|3Mbps|R4499

Plus installation fee

Yep Jladan, they only offer wimax for small businesses +, not specificially home users (seems like they have made neotel prime capped now).
Thanks for your help Daryl, e-mailed them last night and got a call this morning. Hope it's sorted out soon (been like a month).
