Aimed at the "SME Market"

How about aiming at the Residential Market to give us a better alternative than Telkom's ADSL offerings?
 
what is the point of all this if there is no coverage?

Ummmm becasue it takes more than a week to identify a site for the BTS, secure a lease, do an E.I.A, have it approved, get town council approval for the site, then put in back haul, do signal testing, Oh and of course build the actual tower.... You expect Neotel to get country wide coverage in a little more than the year that they have been live?

No, but they have had a licence for much longer than a year!
 
"Details remain sketchy" Would be nice if we had a Neotel representative. Of course that would give us an indication that Neotel gave a damn.

Use it or lose it 14th wireless provider.

Or how about 'Neotel FTTH launch on Friday'
 
Neotel have had a licence for a long time.
They must have done their homework before this and known where they need to install towers, get permission etc? Or did they apply for a licence and then prepare their business model & roll out etc?
Sentech was the same with MyWireless. Could never tell me when I would receive coverage - and look where they are now!

Wimax, not CDMA.

Their usual "no coverage" story doesn't really apply here as it is a different technology. If I remember correctly a single tower has a maximum coverage radius of 70km! This is obviously under test conditions.

If I recall corrcectly these Wimax towers have a practical coverage radius of about 40km.

With this approach much fewer towers are required in order to blanket a city.

This is me working from memory though so my numbers could be off, but I'm certain that there is someone here that knows the correct numbers if I have incorrectly extracted these numbers from the muddled mess that is my consciousness. :D

After all, it is Friday.

I have also noticed that the Neotel website doesn't want to load in my browser(Google Chrome). I then updated my browser by using the Chrome Dev Channel and am now running Google Chrome Ver. 4.0.202.0.

Why do I use Google Chrome you may ask: Because Internet speeds are still slow in SA even with the launch of SEACOM and Google Chrome seems to be the fastest browser out there. BTW, it is based on Linux and therefore very lightweight. Even though it's based on Linux it works perfectly on Windows.

RE: Uncapped Wimax: I would go for it any day, but yes it may take some time to get coverage in my area. I just wish that each of these ISP's will create a message board such as a Twitter Profile to give us updates on their latest news, packages and other updates. Non of them has a "Follow Us On Twitter" link on their websites. Even though they might not be enlightened yet, they must realize that we as the users are. Or are they maybe afraid of all the Technical Questions that we might ask;)

Neotell does have a representative that trolls this forum under the pseudonym "ads" and I see he has spawned a new cover now "Monk3ylov3r" who also uses the "red pill" byline so could be the same person.

I think they/he are just too embarrased to admit that they are Neotel employees/plants.

The tone of their/his comments does support what we have always suspected which is that Neotel regards the residential client base as an annoyance.

Where i stay there use to be a spot of coverage, and a few km there use to be a lot more, now there aint nothing on that crappy map of theirs

details are sketchy cos there's no product yet. if they tell you more about it now, you'll get impatient.

I see people complain that there's no residential wimax product yet. I too want wimax @ home, but looking around, nobody is doing this. surely there's a reason? how well has iBurst's wimax product gone? Why is it that Telkom won't actively sell you theirs?

Thanks biscuit! I take it you aren't referring to the colour? Someone else might get upset... What browser you using please? I'll need to get that seen to....
