Any one tried WoW on a Neotel link? :p

I'm seriously considering moving to Neotel due to my ADSL being down for the last 11days and counting :(

I just raid, so less than 450ms would be perfect for me I think.

Hope someone can shed some light on it :)

If you're able to get Telkom Wimax I'd consider that option if I were you. Wimax is the most decent wireless technology I've worked with.

NB, Telkom Wimax. Because it terminates directly into their exchanges, you can convert it and have your telephone number come through the VOIP box they offer as an extra and you can use your normal ADSL accounts through there. So no need to buy equipment upfront and pay ONLY one place for one type of bandwidth that gets overused....

Ping times are also equal to that of a normal ADSL line. They only sell 512k at the moment but I suspect they'll upgrade soon. It's mostly a quality issue with Telkom, if the upstream speed/quality isn't good enough they won't even install. So they won't lie to you (like other wireless companies) and say you're covered and then you have slow speeds and packet loss constantly...

Oh and it's cheap. R240 or something, no line rental.

It's pretty much comparable to Vodacom 3G [Neoflex Data] . It is actually the exact same tech, with the same issues. Neotel where i'm at is , however more stable than Vodacom+MTN . Ping will be in the 500ms region mostly.

By the sound of the iBurst forums, i dunno, Neotel doesn't feel that bad ;)

In the end though, we're still talking wireless tech vs. fixed cable tech. ADSL will always be better when it comes to requiring a solid stable latency.

Diabolus, do you have Neotel connection? And do you play WoW? :p

I have Neoflex Data, and taking a break from WoW (so no i'm not playing WoW specifically). I am however playing Age of Conan and switching to Champions Online...all the same type of games with servers in europe. I played AoC just fine on Neotel, played WoW on MTN 3G for the most part until i decided to switch to Neotel.

As i've said, latency is pretty much the same as you'd get on 3G/HSDPA , i do however have much less disconnects/spiking on Neotel than on MTN 3G/Vodacom 3G, it's still not ADSL quality though so if you are coming from a stable ADSL connection, you might be dissapointed...but you sure -can- play.

I did Black Temple/Hyjal raiding on MTN 3G with 400-500ms ping...that was about 6-8 months ago. MTN went to crap in the meantime though.
