Neotel's slow but steady start

The only way to "empower the customer" is to put money back in my pocket. I don't want to listen to marketing talk about excellent service or value added products, what matters to the man on the street is price!!! Providing a world class service should be a standard and not a marketing ploy!

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel.

Well, we all know how well we are reinventing the wheel in our schools...

Just because there are multiple examples globally of how it is NOT done, does not mean our wonderful leaders will not try and prove them all wrong...

It really is not hard to understand people. Think about it a bit before going off on the usual tirade.
They need to build up their business slowley. Hell, Telkom is struggling to sign up ADSL users at the rate they are going.
Let Neotel establish themselves before getting into a pricewar (Which they will not win).

All you seem to care about is the here and now. If we want a company that could possibly get into a price war with Telkom and not get crushed, they need to go slowly. If they want to get past that 15%, then they will need to lower prices to start being very attractive.
But that 15% that Telkom wont fight them over is the people that will leave Telkom regardless. That is you and me. So the sooner that we get to that number, the sooner they will have to improve their offering even more

Im with Neotel so far. However Im worried that I may not see a Neotel line in my area for a long time :( At least I haven't supported the devil in any way...I still dont have a Telkom line at my home after all these years :p and I definately don't want one

“The first target market that has been captured are the wholesaler buyers of bandwidth, companies like MTN, Cell-C, arivia.com, Internet solutions, M-Web and Telkom Lesotho. As this is a regulated price, Neotel cannot offer it more cheaply than anyone else.

Regulated by whom?

Neotel.....hmmm, I guess when i see it I'll believe it. We've been hearing so much about them and Telkom doesn't even care. (Maybe Telkom will but them out before they even reach the market)

Lets give them time and see what they do to benefit the average Joe on the street.

"Everyone knows what the issues are. We’re talking about mobile termination rates, interconnection costs and Internet bandwidth-linked rates and charges. There’s no mystery here. The man in the street knows what the problems are."

I have to disagree with this statement. I don't think the man in the street has any idea what the real issues are. Everyday I talk to people who use the internet but don't even know what I mean when I talk about bandwidth. They have no idea that they are paying too much for their bandwidth. They are happy to pay exorbitant ADSL rates beacuse its faster than dialup.

They have no idea that there is no valid reason for an sms to cost 80c. They don't know that every time they make a phone call an interconnect fee is being charged, and that this fee is one of the driving factors behind the elevated cellphone rates.

South African consumers have not yet learned how to vote with their wallets. And they do not understand the need to be informed. As long as a product does what it is supposed to they will continue to pay the price they are being asked to pay.
