Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri told FMTech that she is hopeful that InfraCo and SEACOM will be incorporated into the new Nepad cable project.

What exactly does she mean by this?

planning which should go live in 2009 backed by 12 African governments
having discussions Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri

The above extracts from the article should be enough to tell anyone that the article is not worth it's weight in toilet paper......

Yep.
And the 2 billion barely covers the bribery costs.

Was my immediate reaction as well...

Does this mean that our great minister expects the Infraco/SEACOM to drop everything and join in with this new scheme.

Perhaps this new scheme is not actually new - is this not a hijacking of existing projects, bundling them in the back of the battered bakkie that is Nepad and carting them off. This way Nepad gets control, and the SA DoC is happy. Just not sure that all the business investors and other governments will be that keen.

I could of course be completely mistaken, I am struggling to keep up with the number of international fibres which are imminently going to arrive on these shores. And the political / governmental goings on has me completely baffled.

What does Nepad do again?

We`re gonna run out of place to keep all the cables.

Wonder how long it takes to manufacture the actual cable?
And where do they keep it in the mean time, is it rolled up in the Kalahari somewhere?

Doesn`t sound like an easy job.

This article is clearly a violation of Poison Ivy's constitutional rights !
What Ivy meant was she will by 2009 be finally ready to get off her arse and look at the idea of allowing this project to proceed.
By 2010 she will be standing in parliament threatening to nationalise the private sector who will be at fault for her lack of action, and by 2050 we will still be using Telkom. Neotel's softly, softly approach will still be "proceeding" so slowly that no-one will have heard of it...................................................

It will be easier to get our politicians not to steal & squander the taxpayers money than for this process to actually go anywhere.
