It isn't more expensive right now. Its a steep capital outlay though. I also don't think people take the soft costs into account. Things like food in the fridge going off sooner, time expended on having to work around unreliable electricity etc.

Eskom gets a kick in the teeth

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has decided it will only allow Eskom to recover billions of rand in outstanding 2019/2020 revenue from its 2024/2025 financial year.

Eskom is owed R3.461 billion in revenue from that year that it is permitted to collect in future tariff hikes as part of its Regulatory Clearing Account (RCA) tariff application.

So we have to pay for the people who don't bother. Only in this monkey run country.

Generator or Inverter for residential use?

Ive been looking at the two options.The quietest genny you can get for the power i need is the honda eu65is inverter gen at R60k.Its a 6.5kva unit with 5500W.Im in a complex so cant have a noisy gen. Ive phoned a few inverter supply companies and they reckon about R40k for a similar inverter...

What exactly is it that you want to achieve? Post a photo of your timer screen, many of us here can assist. So between 5pm and 8pm, don't use the battery, and don't charge the battery. Use only grid power or solar. I think sjm above has it - I must set battery to 100% but uncheck "Grid"...

My solar PV installation is happening at the end of this month. It's the only viable option if you're not planning to emmigrate.

True. Also, the fact that your applicances are definitely going to end up damaged sooner or later, and insurance won't pay out if you use the wrong wording in your claim (i.e. use 'power surge' in your claims, not 'load shedding'). We have already had a bust tumble dryer and PC. We have now set ourselves up so that we barely notice load shedding, although we are far from being off the grid. That, we plan to do after we've moved house.
