Mornin' chaps.

I received my drivers license a few years back and did not do any driving till a week ago. I recently received a new car and started to drive but it was more difficult than I anticipated. Most of my issues involve stop/start at intersections and inclines, and driving slow with clutch only to get into tight areas and in/out of my garage and driveway.

Any pointers?

Practise.

Go for a drive on a Sunday morning around your area for a couple hours. Go explore streets and look at houses. Go to movies. Go out somewhere different for lunch. Go drive to bowling or something. Get some practise without traffic and in a week you'll hate the chore of driving like the rest of us.

I'm more interested in why you weren't driving up until now. Didn't you have a car?

Stick with it. You'll get used to it in time but do NOT give up.

Confidence is key. But don't stress about it too much, it will get easier with time and practice

Learn by doing, there really is no other way.

I would however advise putting the big red L on the back even though you have a license because it sounds like you are as good as a Learner and other people should be aware.

They'll also stress you less if they think you are a learner.

^this ...especially the last bit.

Don't be a nervous driver for one because it causes more accidents than anything.
Go find a quite street and practice.

which area(s) do you drive in?

Take a chill pill and calm down. Nervous driving is asking for trouble.

Find a quiet area with hills and twisty roads. Drive that for a while. Practice parking. Listen to the car.

dont stress , you will get there , took me a while also , but love driving now :p

dont try and do parallel parking , after 3 years i could still not fit in the parking :p

can only do it now that smaller car with power steering , its near impossible with a tazz for me.

Find an empty parking lot close to your house and practice there. Saves you having ppl hooting at you all the time.

I bought a new Clio a few years back.
2 minutes from home a learner driver slammed into the back of me.
Poor girl looked petrified, to make it worse it was directly outside a police station and rush hour traffic.
I told her to not worry, insurance is there for a reason, don't let it ruin your driving experience.

On an open road:
Floor the accelerator then drop the clutch, find out how your car behaves.
if its a new car the clutch is smooth?
