NetFLIX movie unavailability

Had a weird situation over the weekend. Went around to a mate's house to go play some games and was browsing around NetFLIX the one evening looking to see what was possibly available as a Sunday night movie. Came across three movies that I earmarked as something to watch (Angels & Demons, Iron Man 2 & Deja Vu). Anyway, hopped on to NetFLIX last night to find that these movies were no longer available to stream.

Is it possibly as I was on a different router, ADSL number or ISP through my mate's connection (in Sea Point) that these movies were available as opposed to when I tried to stream from home (in Parklands)? Or does NetFLIX randomly decide to make movies available and then unavailable? :confused::confused:
 
Different regions have vastly different catalogues. My guess would be that your mate was seeing the UK catalogue and you the US one.

Indeed, all three of those movies are available in the UK catalogue but not the US one.
 
Such a simple answer and yet so frustrating. Is it possible to choose which catalogue you want to view?

It's wholly dependent on what region Netflix thinks you're in. So, depending on what service you use to circumvent their geolocation, absolutely.

Ok cool. I'll have to confirm my settings this evening. I'm using the London DNS server address as my alternate DNS (with Cape Town as my primary). Will check my UnoTelly settings as well to see if there's anything there.

Shot for the help.

Make CT your primary, being closer, and swap London out for one that's Dynamo enabled. Then, on Unotelly's Quick Start page, check the last option in the left-hand sidebar. There are a few regional options you can change.
 
It seems the US version has a bigger back catalogue of tv series, but there are definitely more recent mainstream movies on the UK service. That said I've watched stuff on the Brazilian and Scandinavian services as well; why limit yourself? :p

Cape Town is dynamo enabled (which is my primary DNS) and his primary is also Cape Town. We both also have London as secondary (which is NOT dynamo enabled btw). My understanding of Dynamo enabled server means that you have access to ALL content from ALL regions... Correct? :confused: edit : partially correct. One device can access USA and another UK simultaneously if using a dynamo enabled DNS server.

So it must come down to the settings in my Unotelly account?? (mine below)

Can you watch UK Netflix videos on a US Roku using Unotelly? Anybody got this working?
