Hi hope this the correct forum for the technical question on the Netflix

Got Netflix running smoothly for the past few months on simple model of:
Apple TV - Mikrotik Router - PPOE through Billion ADSL modem.

I have a StrongVPN Connection to New York (Best Latency) on the Mikrotik running and mark all traffic from the 2 Apple TV's and force them to route all traffic across the StrongVPN connection and it works with Netflix like a dream!

Problem: Other services on the Apple TV would include iTunes and Youtube and a few others. These perform extremely poorly over the VPN and if I move the Apple TV off of the VPN these services work well but then obviously Netflix stops working.

I have monitored the VPN connection closely (Torch on Mikrotik) and traced all the destination IP's when connecting to Netflix and just tried to route those across the VPN connection without having the whole Apple TV go through the VPN but it still moans I am coming from a foreign IP address.

I have about 30 routes in and I also forced DNS to 8.8.8.8 to go through VPN but still no joy. I have searched online but there is no solid answer or there is something I might be missing.

I am not sure if there is a route list I can use or if there is something I am missing so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

VPN might go ****ty if you have anything that logs, interprets the packets. EG. having netlimiter on the same box had me down to 1mbs and when I removed it, it was running at max speed. You should also make sure that you don't have any DNS leaks and you should be using only the VPN's dns. That AFAIK is the proper way to do it...

Glad to see another Mikrotik fan! Try setting your VPN as the default route, just to test. This will rule out a routing issue. I doubt it has much to do with DNS, but check your routes, failing that try another VPN service.

This is one of the reasons I prefer Unotelly as opposed to using a VPN. Maybe play around with the 7day trial and see if you can come right. You can enable and disable services that apply to unotelly so might be better for you than messing around with VPNs.

Is UnoTelly still working with Netflix for you?? Using a WD TV Live, and it's saying it cannot connect to Netflix. I can connect no problem from a computer (using Hola Unblocker).

Using unotelly for net flicks at the moment.... It's kinda slow, but that could just be line congestion

You probably haven't set it up correctly or haven't updated your IP in a while.

Unotelly never been slow for me. Definitely congestion.

The main gateway is the Mikrotik, so traffic is currently "policy based routing" based on source IP routing through the VPN. It works. The problem is I do not want policy based routing. I was destination based so I have added a whole bunch of routes specifically for Netflix to pass over the VPN connection. Is there an IP list for Netflix or does anyone have an IP list?

If I have destination based routing, then any device in my house will automatically route to Netflix including all iPhones and iPads without all of their traffic routing over the VPN. Just the Netflix traffic.

Thanks
