It didn't seem like this series has a.dedicated thread yet, and it totally deserves it.

I saw a story about it being the most-watched series on Netflix and I couldn't believe it ... a limited series about chess???

It only has 7 episodes, and it's single-handedly creating renewed interest in chess globally.

It really is a work of art: beautifully acted and filmed, detailed sets, enough authentic details to please chess nerds while not being critical for those who aren't, and actual emotional drama. About chess. Who knew it was possible.

Ok. Now I need to watch this tonight. Always been a chess lover.

Taylor Joy was outstanding but the young actress who played her younger version was incredible in a difficult role.
Scott Frank, the brains behind this series also impressed with Godless another once of mini series so check it out if you haven't.
Also did Minority Report and Logan.

this type of drama happens quite often in chess

there are prodigies popping up almost every year, this year's Beth is Firouzja from Iran

last year it was Wei Yi from China

and then there is Ivanchuk which would be an entire 9 season series on its own

I just finished the last episode ... could the ending have been any more perfect? That was an absolute joy.

Now of course I like ever other sucker wants to play chess with somebody. Anybody know of an online chess platform where you can just pick up casual games?

The length of this series was so good. Really hope we see more short self-contained stuff like this.

I'm assuming we can post spoilers here.
SPOILERS.

When she looks up and sees the pieces.
/goosebumps
I like how they used that to come full circle with the story. Was a cool bow-tie at the end to wrap it up.

lichess, magnus carlsen plays there

I'll confess I enjoyed it even more because I used to be in my High School's chess club. I was no child prodigy, just a casual player, but it was fun ... I honestly can't say why I let it fizzle out, but I seem to think I got my ass handed to me at competitive games and quickly realised I'd rather leave it to the skilled people lol.

Thanks for that info. I'll be looking out for more of his work. Godless was really good, I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't a second season or a spin off.
