(Netflix) The Queen's Gambit

people complaining prodigies beating world champions as predictable have not followed chess

thats what happens in the chess scene, every year

Firouzja beat Carlsen this year

Also I think the ending is a nod to one of Carlsen's world championship matches, whereafter he won, he just went for a walk with his father, I think it was in New York.

If I was complaining about this, it wasn't a chess prodigy issue, it was a series issue. The main character comes from nowhere, discovers some raw skill, and just becomes basically unstoppable. Take the chess out and the story can stay more or less the same with anything.

yeah but this story happens often in chess, its not unbelievable to those who know chess

Searching for Bobby Fisher is a movie with similar themes, and its real life story, or based on it atleast

The most unbelievable thing about this show is women playing chess.

Exactly. “Only female ever”. You’re just proving my point.
Well if you watch the show she is depicted as unique in playing top level against men, they even have the woman's world champion sitting in the spectators gallery when she is in Moscow.

Yeah that much I do know. Women in the elite categories are rare enough that they have a separate category for women masters / grandmasters.

Watch a show before commenting? That's like asking me to read the article before commenting, have you forgotten you're on mybb?

But aside from that, let me put on a bigger chip on my shoulder and say : why didn't they make her a POC? A female POC chess champion in the 50s. Let's go full out. Imagine how many Netflix subscriptions would be cancelled.

I’m not a chess lover of player nor watcher ...

No idea but this series catches you from the start ... no cap
